We need a senior (10+ years) Business Analyst with experience supporting Data Governance/MDM projects in Capital Market environments. The ideal candidate brings a blend of capital markets or investment management experience and strong familiarity with data governance, metadata management, and data quality tooling. This is a business-facing, hands-on role ideal for a highly organized and process-driven individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must have experience working on data governance, data quality, or master data management (MDM) initiatives, strong understanding of data lifecycle, metadata, lineage, and stewardship models as well as familiarity with data governance tools such as Collibra, Informatica, Alation, Solidatus, etc. Experience using Atlan or Atlation for metadata and data governance workflows is a strong plus.

Candidates must have recent capital markets experience and extensive data governance experience. Candidates must be local to the New York or New Jersey area and commute into the office three times a week. No relocation considered. Please only send me candidates in the NY/NJ area open to hybrid.

Job Description: Highly analytical, business-savvy Data Governance Business Analyst to join its growing data strategy and governance initiatives. This consultant will work directly with business units, data stewards, and technology stakeholders to support the definition, implementation, and enforcement of data governance frameworks, policies, and best practices. This is a business-facing, hands-on role ideal for a highly organized and process-driven individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to capture and define critical data elements (CDEs) across front, middle, and back-office systems.
• Document and maintain data dictionaries, lineage diagrams, and data flow maps using tools such as Collibra, Alation, or similar.
• Assist in establishing and operationalizing data governance frameworks, including data ownership, stewardship models, and issue management processes.
• Support implementation of data quality controls, validation rules, and exception workflows in collaboration with the technology team.
• Conduct impact assessments for data-related projects and identify cross-functional data dependencies.
• Act as liaison between business units and IT to define data requirements for governance dashboards, reporting, and master data solutions.
• Track and manage data issues, remediation plans, and metrics as part of ongoing data governance maturity efforts.
• Facilitate working sessions, user training, and documentation development to support adoption and change management.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, ideally within financial services, asset management, or investment banking.
• Experience working on data governance, data quality, or master data management (MDM) initiatives.
• Strong understanding of data lifecycle, metadata, lineage, and stewardship models.
• Familiarity with data governance tools such as Collibra, Informatica, Alation, Solidatus, etc.
• Proficient in working with SQL, Excel, and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for data profiling and reporting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to interact with both business and technical stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently in a high-performance, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in capital markets, hedge fund operations, or portfolio accounting/analytics systems.
• Knowledge of regulatory data requirements such as BCBS 239, GDPR, or SEC rules.
• Familiarity with cloud-based data architectures (AWS, Snowflake, Azure) is a plus.
• Experience using Atlan or Atlation for metadata and data governance workflows is a strong plus.
• Project management exposure or experience using tools like JIRA, Confluence, or Smartsheet.
