Responsibilities include clinical tasks such as intake, vital signs, ECG, injections, PPD placements/readings, eye and ear irrigation, TED hose and compression stockings, specimen processing, procedure assistance, laboratory administrative tasks, screening tests, autoclave use and maintenance, and quality controls for Point-of-Care Testing (POCT). The CMA also completes administrative tasks related to POCT and supports the laboratories as needed. The role participates in pre-visit planning and huddles with the interdisciplinary care team, explains procedures and medications to patients, provides educational materials and follow-up care, and may float to other clinical sites. The position is delegated under NC Medical Board and NC Board of Nursing regulations. This role coordinates with other clinical staff and supports the care team. Work Location: 1214 Vaughn Rd #2800, Burlington, NC 27217 Schedule: Monday 8:00am to 8:00pm, Tuesday – Thursday 8:00am to 5:00pm, Friday 8:00am to 1:00pm Required Travel: None Duties / Responsibilities Perform intake with patients including vital signs and visit information. Handle telephone messages, document encounters, follow clinic protocols, and inform providers. Administer medications as ordered or per established protocols following the six rights of medication administration. Assist providers with procedures such as EKGs. Administer injections and perform phlebotomy as needed. Set up for clinical procedures, maintain sterile technique, and perform related duties within scope of practice. Complete forms accurately to address patient needs. Document lab results and collect data as required. Participate in population management with the care team. Review provider appointments the day before visits to anticipate needs. Complete vision and hearing screening as applicable. Document phone notes per PHS guidelines. Other clinical and administrative duties as assigned within scope of practice. Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting Program (Diploma or Degree). Experience: 1 to 3 years of healthcare experience in a clinical setting; 1 year of experience providing care for the elderly preferred. Certification: CMA or RMA Certification; eligible certifications include CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), CCMA (NHA), or NCCT certification; First Aid/BLS Certification. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Team-oriented and able to work within an interdisciplinary team. Initiative and problem-solving abilities; able to multitask and manage workload. Familiarity with processing specimens for LabCorp and POCT. Strong administrative and clinical task proficiency; patient-centered focus. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism; good communication and customer service skills. Proficiency with digital record systems and Microsoft Office; knowledge of medical terminology and pharmacology related to medical assisting. Adaptable to feedback and able to learn on the job; works well independently and in teams. Immunizations Be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have all immunizations up-to-date prior to beginning employment.
