Role Description The Associate Attorney will be a full-time, on-site team member based in Wheeling, IL, focusing primarily on family law matters. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, assessing legal issues, and providing clear, practical legal advice regarding divorce, parenting responsibilities, support, property division, and related matters. The role involves drafting and reviewing pleadings, motions, agreements, and other legal documents, conducting legal research, and preparing for hearings, trials, mediation, and collaborative law sessions. The Associate Attorney will negotiate on clients’ behalf, communicate regularly with opposing counsel and courts, and maintain detailed case files. This position also includes contributing to case strategy, collaborating with colleagues and staff, and participating in firm initiatives that support client service and professional development. Qualifications Strong foundation in Law with a demonstrated interest in Family Law; ability to analyze statutes, case law, and court rules relevant to domestic relations matters. Experience providing Legal Advice, including counseling clients on options, risks, and likely outcomes, and presenting complex information in a clear, accessible manner. Proficiency in Research, including legal research tools and drafting well-supported memoranda, pleadings, and briefs. Effective Negotiation skills, with experience or training in settlement discussions, mediation, and collaborative law processes. Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license (or eligibility for admission) to practice law in Illinois. Strong written and oral advocacy skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated commitment to compassionate client service, ethical practice, and maintaining confidentiality and professional integrity. Comfort working collaboratively with colleagues and staff, as well as independently taking ownership of assigned matters. Prior family law experience, clerkships, or internships are preferred Salary and Benefits Starting salary will be based on the attorney's prior experience and skills.
