Job Title Facilities & Events Specialist Location Clayton State University, Morrow, Georgia Job Summary This position is housed within the Office of Events & Venue Management and supports the successful execution of campus events through the setup and breakdown of event spaces, as well as a variety of event-related operational tasks. The role also coordinates and assists with campus office and departmental moves, ensuring efficient, organized, and seamless transitions. In addition, this position monitors campus cleanliness standards by conducting routine building inspections and managing inventory levels of cleaning supplies and paper products. The role plays a critical part in maintaining accountability and service excellence from the University’s third‑party custodial service provider. This position requires a high level of responsiveness, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to customer service. Due to the hands‑on nature of the work, this role is not eligible for teleworking. Event Setup & Operations Set up tables, chairs, stages, and other equipment in accordance with event plans for campus activities, including sporting events, commencements, and special events. Prepare indoor and outdoor event spaces, including basic ground preparation when required. Tear down event setups and ensure proper storage of equipment and materials. Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during event setup and breakdown. Assist event coordinators, organizers, and attendees by providing timely and professional support. Respond promptly to requests from event organizers and leadership to ensure successful event execution. Assist with scheduling and coordinating custodial support for events during both regular business hours and after‑hours operations. Quality Assurance Conduct routine inspections of campus facilities to assess cleanliness, sanitation, and overall custodial performance. Monitor and document the performance of the third‑party custodial vendor against established service expectations. Identify service deficiencies, report findings, and track corrective actions through resolution. Serve as a liaison between campus departments and the custodial vendor to address concerns and ensure service quality. Provide regular updates and reports to the Director of Grounds, Landscaping, and Custodial Services on performance trends and issues. Campus Moves & Operational Support Coordinate and assist with campus office and departmental moves, including setup and reconfiguration of spaces. Support general facilities operations to ensure continuity of services across campus. Collaborate with Facilities Management, Auxiliary Services, and other departments to support operational needs. Inventory Management Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies, paper products, and sanitation materials across campus facilities. Conduct audits of custodial closets and storage areas to ensure organization, safety, and compliance with standards. Coordinate replenishment and distribution of supplies to ensure uninterrupted operations. Track usage trends and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce waste. Customer Service & Engagement Provide responsive, courteous, and solutions‑oriented service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Address guest requests and special needs in a professional and accountable manner. Promote a culture of service excellence and operational accountability. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Experience in facilities operations, custodial services, event setup, or a related field. Demonstrated ability to perform inspections and maintain operational standards. Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving equipment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a higher education or large institutional environment. Experience coordinating or overseeing third‑party service providers. Familiarity with custodial operations, sanitation practices, and inventory control. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to assess service quality and enforce performance expectations. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to properly use and wear required safety and protective equipment at all times. Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to push and pull equipment and materials as part of daily operations. Ability to perform repetitive motions involving hands, wrists, arms, and shoulders. Ability to bend, reach, climb, balance, crouch, kneel, twist, and crawl as required to complete assigned tasks. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Ability to perform work in a fast‑paced, service‑oriented campus environment with frequent interaction with students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Knowledge of event setup procedures and general facilities operations. Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and attention‑to‑detail skills. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, fumes, and odors associated with custodial and outdoor environments.
