The Postdoctoral Researcher will support research activities in the Department of Chemistry with a focus on organic synthetic chemistry and the development of new molecular materials. The position involves designing and performing chemical syntheses, conducting laboratory experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to publications and reports. The researcher will work both independently and collaboratively to advance the goals of an externally funded research project and assist in mentoring students involved in laboratory research. This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding. Responsibilities Organic Synthetic Chemistry - Perform organic and organometallic synthesis to prepare new molecular structures and materials relevant to the research project. Laboratory Experiments & Characterization - Conduct experiments and analyze samples using NMR, MS, UV-Vis spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and other standard characterization techniques. Data Analysis & Documentation - Collect, interpret, and document experimental data; maintain accurate laboratory records; prepare research summaries and technical notes. Research Reporting & Dissemination - Assist in preparing manuscripts, presentations, and progress reports for internal use, NSF deliverables, and scientific publication. Collaboration & Student Mentoring - Work collaboratively with faculty, research partners, and students; provide guidance and training to undergraduate and graduate researchers in laboratory techniques and safety. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Organic Chemistry, Organic Synthesis Chemistry, or a closely related field. No prior experience required. Demonstrated experience in organic or organometallic synthetic chemistry Experience with spectroscopic and electrochemical characterization techniques.. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research laboratory environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with molecular electronic materials. Familiarity with EPR spectroscopy, radical chemistry, or main-group element functionalization. Experience with thin‑film preparation and solid‑state characterization methods. Prior experience mentoring or supervising undergraduate or graduate researchers.
