Registered Nurse - Women's Float Pool - Full Time - Nights

Job Summary Location: Methodist Women's Hospital Address: 707 N. 190th Plaza - Elkhorn, NE Work Schedule: 12 Hour Shifts/Week, rotating weekends, rotating holidays. 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM Requires a minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse, with prior experience in women’s health strongly preferred. The Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) provides flexible, high-quality patient care across multiple Women’s & Children’s service areas, including Mother/Baby, GYN, High-Risk OB (HROB), NICU, and Labor & Delivery. Assignments are based on the RN’s experience and competencies. In the NICU, responsibilities typically include care of feeder/grower infants, with advanced assignments (e.g., ventilated patients) reserved for those with specialized training. RNs without prior Labor & Delivery experience will support postpartum recoveries rather than active labor patients until required certifications are obtained. Float Pool RNs are cross‑trained to support additional patient populations, including Medical‑Surgical units as needed, and may provide task‑based support in the Emergency Department. Opportunities for additional training, such as ED triage, are available for those interested in expanding their skill set. This role requires adaptability, strong clinical skills, and a commitment to delivering safe, patient‑centered care across a variety of settings. Responsibilities Essential Functions Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the patient, ensuring understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria. Demonstrate ability to identify opportunities for and give individualized customer service/patient care according to patient needs. Perform an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the assigned patient's nursing care needs, including data from the patient/significant other(s), prioritizing data collection according to immediate needs, and using assessment findings in discharge planning. Develop/review/revise and individualize the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs, collaborating with providers and other disciplines, providing teaching specific to the patient's health‑care problem, and ensuring the care plan reflects continuing care needs or referrals for discharge/transfer. Implement interventions consistent with the established plan of care, following nursing protocols and standards of care, using current knowledge in practice based on standards and research literature. Evaluate patient care to determine response to care/interventions, monitoring outcomes, evaluating capabilities and/or limitations, monitoring ability to manage care after dismissal, and giving verbal or written shift reports that include SBAR content and overall plan of care. Perform technical skills independently and safely, learning new skills within specified time frames and using equipment safely and according to policy and procedure manuals. Maintain professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, and interactions, communicating effectively to solve problems, being approachable and professional with patients, families, and staff, participating in unit maintenance, and maintaining competence. Initiate action to correct or prevent risks such as falls, needle sticks, and other hazards, completing appropriate reports, communicating unresolved issues, and working within scope of practice and safety precautions. Review, delegate, and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff, ensuring right tasks, right people, right communication, and right feedback. Be fiscally accountable, acting professionally and charging accurately for supplies and equipment. Schedule 36 Hours/week - Night shift Education Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing required, or obtained within 5 years from date of hire for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Experience Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience. License/Certifications Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) license, valid compact multistate license, or temporary permit while awaiting licensure. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire. Certification(s) in area of specialty preferred; from National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year of eligibility. Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 1 year of hire. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 3 months of hire. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Strong interpersonal skills to communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and coworkers. Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments. Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills required for departmental and hospital information systems. Physical Requirements Medium work – exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Occasionally performed (1%–33%): climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting. Frequently performed (34%–66%): balancing, carrying, crouching, distinguishing colors, keyboarding/typing, lifting, pulling/pushing, repetitive motions, stooping/bending, twisting. Constantly performed (67%–100%): grasping, hearing, reaching, seeing/visual, speaking/talking, standing, walking. Job Hazards Not Related: electrical shock/static. Rare (1%–33%): radiation alpha, beta, gamma; radiation non‑ionizing (ultraviolet, visible light, infrared, microwaves). NICU only. Occasionally (34%–66%): physical hazards (noise, temperature, lighting, wet floors), equipment/machinery/tools, explosives (pressurized gas), hazardous drugs. Frequent (67%–100%): chemical agents (toxic, corrosive, flammable, latex), biological agents (airborne and bloodborne viruses), mechanical moving parts/vibrations.
