Job Summary Position: Associate Director Medical Science Liaison Location: Nashville, United States of America Employment Type: Full Time, Field-based Responsibilities Provide direction, guidance, and support to a team of MSLs in an assigned region. Assume direct territory responsibilities when no MSL coverage is available. Assess, recognize, and improve MSL performance at the individual and group level. Ensure successful execution of MSL strategic, operational, and tactical plans. Keep the executive director of MSLs informed about key information in a timely manner. Represent Exelixis Medical Affairs as managers in the field. Act as a cross‑functional partner with Medical Affairs management within the company. Serve as a positive role model and support the professional development of reports. Lead high‑visibility Medical Affairs projects and be accountable for outcomes. Foster teamwork and continuity across the entire MSL organization. Engage key national and regional thought leaders and healthcare professionals. Exchange scientific information with external parties in an accurate, fair, and balanced manner. Report field intelligence to Exelixis, including competitive information and treatment‑landscape perspectives. Represent Exelixis management at medical conferences and provide session summaries. Provide cross‑functional support across the company as a scientific resource, within guidelines. Maintain a level of knowledge about pertinent studies, compounds, and diseases to facilitate conversations with oncology leaders. Consistently demonstrate a high standard of excellence and require the same from reports. Support the achievement of individual, functional, and departmental goals while executing all duties in an honest and compliant manner. Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills Education/Experience – Requirements Master's level oncology PA or NP degree with active commitment toward completion of a doctorate degree preferred and a minimum of 13 years of related experience. Accredited doctorate degree in a basic‑science or life‑science discipline (Pharm.D., Ph.D., D.Sc., D.N.P., or D.O.) and a minimum of 12 years of related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Experience Minimum of 6 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Oncology MSL management experience. Minimum of 8 years as an MSL in therapeutic oncology. Prior people‑manager experience with similarly credentialed and skilled reports; if no prior MSL management experience, mentorship from a prior manager is required. Knowledge / Skills Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently. Completion of leadership training coursework. Ability to take and follow directions, accept guidance, and adapt quickly to changes. Ability to communicate and engage both small and large groups in an engaging manner. Efficient time and priority management. Demonstration of leadership while recognizing when input from others is needed. Working Conditions Ability to travel frequently (50% or more), including occasional weekends. Compensation and Benefits Potential base pay range: $230–280K annually. Actual base pay may vary based on qualifications, location, and schedule.
