Human Resources Director
Baltimore Area SNF/LTC Facility
Job Description
Job Description
A respected healthcare organization is conducting a confidential search for an experienced Director of Human Resources to support the human resources operations of a skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, and post-acute healthcare center in the greater Baltimore area.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level HR generalist with a strong healthcare background who enjoys serving as a visible, hands-on HR partner to employees and facility leadership. The ideal candidate will bring broad-based experience across employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compliance, leave administration, payroll and HRIS processes, and other core HR functions. Experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, senior living, post-acute care, or a similar healthcare environment is strongly preferred.
The successful candidate will serve as a trusted HR resource to employees, managers, and the interdisciplinary leadership team, providing practical guidance across the full employee lifecycle while helping promote a positive, accountable, and resident-centered workplace culture.
Serve as the primary HR resource for employees, managers, and facility leadership.
Provide hands-on support across the full range of HR generalist functions.
Partner with department leaders on employee relations, coaching, performance management, corrective action, and workplace concerns.
Conduct and document employee relations inquiries and investigations in a fair, consistent, and legally appropriate manner.
Support recruitment, interviewing, selection, onboarding, orientation, and retention initiatives.
Assist leaders with staffing needs, workforce planning, attendance matters, and employee engagement.
Administer and support HR processes related to leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, workers' compensation, unemployment claims, and employee benefits.
Coordinate payroll and timekeeping processes and work closely with payroll and HRIS partners to resolve discrepancies and maintain accurate employee records.
Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records and HR documentation.
Monitor compliance with applicable federal, Maryland, and local employment requirements and healthcare-related regulatory standards.
Provide guidance regarding workplace policies, attendance, leave, performance, employee conduct, and other employment matters.
Support required employee training, compliance initiatives, audits, and HR reporting.
Prepare and monitor routine HR metrics, reports, and staffing information.
Assist with the development and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and employee communication initiatives.
Promote a professional, respectful, accountable, and resident-centered workplace culture.
Partner with corporate HR and facility leadership on HR initiatives and special projects as needed.
We are seeking a senior-level HR generalist who is comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities, and handling the day-to-day realities of HR in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable advising managers, addressing employee concerns, supporting recruitment efforts, managing HR processes, and ensuring that required documentation and compliance obligations are handled accurately and timely.
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
Strong employee relations and conflict-resolution skills.
Practical knowledge of recruitment, onboarding, retention, and performance management.
Working knowledge of payroll, timekeeping, HRIS, and personnel administration.
Sound understanding of employment law and HR compliance.
Strong judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive matters.
Ability to coach and advise managers while maintaining appropriate HR boundaries.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with facility and corporate leadership.
A visible, approachable, and service-oriented HR presence.
Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Five (5) or more years of progressive HR generalist experience; additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
Recent experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, senior living, post-acute care, or another healthcare setting is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience with employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, HR compliance, and personnel administration.
Working knowledge of Maryland and federal employment laws and regulations.
Experience working with HRIS, payroll, timekeeping, and/or workforce management systems.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
Prior HR experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care environment.
Experience supporting a unionized workforce.
Experience with healthcare HRIS, payroll, scheduling, or workforce management systems.
Experience handling employee investigations, unemployment claims, workers' compensation matters, and leave administration.
Familiarity with CMS-regulated healthcare environments and the unique HR considerations associated with long-term care.
Meaningful Director-level HR opportunity with a strong hands-on generalist focus.
Opportunity to serve as the facility's primary HR resource and trusted advisor.
Direct partnership with facility and corporate leadership.
Opportunity to make a visible impact on employee relations, retention, engagement, and workplace culture.
Collaborative healthcare leadership environment.
Comprehensive benefits package.
Opportunity to build upon or expand healthcare HR leadership experience within a stable organization committed to quality care and employee development.
Employment is contingent upon successfully satisfying all applicable pre-employment requirements, which may include verification of employment eligibility, education and professional references, criminal background screening, healthcare exclusion list screenings (including OIG and SAM, where applicable), occupational health clearance, tuberculosis screening, immunization verification, and any other requirements imposed by applicable federal or Maryland law, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations, or organizational policy.
