To learn more about the Colas USA Family of Companies, please visit Job Summary Safely and efficiently operates a variety of heavy construction equipment to support heavy civil construction projects. This position is responsible for equipment operation, minor maintenance, and assisting crews to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements. Main Responsibilities Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Simon Steering and Continuous Improvement teams Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies Follow all safety procedures, report unsafe conditions, and use tools, equipment, and materials properly Operate a range of heavy construction equipment, which may include excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, scrapers, skid steers, backhoes, articulated trucks, rollers, and other mobile or stationary equipment Operate additional tools and light equipment as required to support assigned construction tasks Conduct pre‑and post‑operation inspections to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition Perform routine and minor maintenance tasks, including fueling, greasing, checking fluids, and reporting mechanical issues Safely operate company vehicles when authorized to travel between jobsites and company locations Assist with maintaining clean, orderly, and safe jobsite conditions Work closely with foremen, skilled craft workers, laborers, and other crew members to complete assigned projects Perform manual labor and general construction tasks as needed to support project completion Education High school diploma or GED preferred, or equivalent construction experience Valid driver’s license with the ability to maintain a clean driving record required OSHA or training preferred or ability to obtain Skills Previous of experience operating heavy construction equipment in a construction or industrial environment required Knowledge of safe equipment operation practices and jobsite safety requirements Ability to read and understand safety rules, operating instructions, and equipment manuals Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team Strong situational awareness and attention to detail Ability to follow directions, meet productivity expectations, and adapt to changing work conditions Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to identify equipment issues Physical Requirements Wears and maintains required PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds with or without assistance to handle materials, tools, equipment, or documents essential to the role Regularly uses hands to move and manipulate objects needed for tool use, equipment operation, and manual tasks Regularly communicates (talk and hear) to coordinate work, receive instructions, and maintain job‑site safety Regularly stands for extended periods and moves across various surfaces or terrain to access different work areas and complete assigned tasks Regularly climbs on and off equipment and walks across uneven terrain to navigate field sites safely Regularly works from a seated position for extended periods to operate equipment and vehicles requiring continuous control Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and experiences vibration from operating equipment Regularly works outdoors in all weather conditions with possible exposure to dust and airborne particles Regularly works near fuels, oils, and other common workplace chemicals associated with operating or supporting equipment and machinery Regularly works in environments that may include loud noise, moving equipment, dust, or varying indoor/outdoor conditions depending on operational needs Frequently stands, walks, sits, reaches, and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls to access work areas and complete field tasks Occasionally works at heights, near, or under electrical hazards when tasks require elevated access or proximity to electrical components Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overtime; overnight travel may be required Benefits and Perks Choice of 3 Medical Plan Options Prescription Drug Coverage Dental and Vision Plans Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Options Access to Telemedicine and Healthcare Advocacy Services Paid Parental Leave Employee Assistance Program Life and AD&D Insurance Disability Insurance Paid Time Off and Paid Holidays 401(k) Savings Plan with Company Match Product and Service Group Discount Programs The information contained herein is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of the job, nor are they intended to be an all-inclusive list of the skills and abilities required to do the job.
