Tool and Die Technician

We are looking for a Tool & Die Associate to join our team in Portland. In this role, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, developing action plans, and repairing injection and compression molds, as well as progressive dies, to ensure the production of high-quality parts. - Troubleshoot & Repair: Diagnose issues with molds and dies, executing repairs to restore original contours using precision hand tools, machine shop equipment, and EDM machines.
- Fabrication: Work from engineering drawings, parts, and sketches to fabricate jigs, fixtures, and replacement components.
- Technical Maintenance: Repair cylinders and adjust proximity switches on molds with cam/slide actions using knowledge of hydraulics and PLCs.
- On-Press Support: Perform minor repairs in-press, such as polishing gates and removing stuck parts.
- Changeovers: Efficiently conduct mold changeovers and manage the storage of inserts.
- Safety & Organization: Maintain high standards of 5S and workplace safety.
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in repairing and building compression/injection molds and progressive dies.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED (equivalent work experience in the field may be considered). Technical education is preferred.
- Technical Skills: * Proficiency in TIG welding.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics and PLCs.
- Ability to check heaters, thermocouples, and heat controllers.
- Familiarity with three-plate mold operations and hot runner systems.

- Decision Making: strong ability to determine the cause of malfunctions and design effective correction plans.

- Troubleshoot injection and compression molds and progressive dies and develop a plan of action and then repair the molds and dies to produce quality molded and stamped parts.
- Work from engineering drawings, parts and sketches to fabricate jigs, fixtures and replacement parts for production machinery, molds and dies.
- Repair cylinders, install and adjust proximity switches on molds that have cams and slide actions using their knowledge of hydraulics and programmable logic controllers.
- Prepare sketches to fabricate broken sections of molds and dies. Repair the damage by welding, using precision hand tools and machinery generally associated with a machine shop, to include burning with an EDM machine to restore the original contour.
- Make minor repairs to molds in presses such as polishing gates and details and remove stuck parts.
- Conduct mold changeovers in a timely manner by retrieving and storing inserts.
