IT Support Specialist

POSITION SPECIFICS We are searching for an experienced, detail-oriented, and customer service-focused IT Support Specialist to join our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Tools Team at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. The PLM CAD Tools Team works in collaboration with ARL Research Offices to support the management of research and engineering data via Siemens Teamcenter and a suite of engineering design tools. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. RESPONSIBILITIES Provide technical support to users for CAD software packages and Siemens Teamcenter PLM Diagnose, research, and resolve user issues in a timely manner through established protocols, robust communication, and troubleshooting; escalated as necessary Participate in maintenance, implementation, troubleshooting, and support for applications and servers Provide appropriate access to applications, systems, and data Provide guidance and inform of policies/procedures to users, including training as necessary Implement security policies and protocols Utilize and maintain knowledge bases, white papers, FAQs, and vendor documentation Contribute to documentation of incidents, internal processes/procedures, and training manuals Assist in tracking and maintaining hardware and software inventory; interact with vendors May supervise a growing staff, including hiring, development, and performance management REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Oracle databases and application servers (e.g., Apache Tomcat) Helpdesk ticketing systems (e.g., Atlassian Jira) Strong analytical skills to achieve results when diagnosing and resolving technical issues Successful experience following established protocols and security procedures Success in environments where various forms of communication and organizational skills were crucial to be effective PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Associate's degree in computer or specialized technology CAD tools and PLM systems (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter) VMWare and virtual machine management Microsoft Office Product Suite – Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Project, Visio Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher and may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility, if required WORK LOCATION Your working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA. However, options may exist for hybrid on-site/work from home depending upon research needs. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process. MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS Senior Support: Associate degree, 4+ years of relevant experience or equivalent; Required Certifications: None Intermediate Support: GED or High School, 2+ years of relevant experience or equivalent; Required Certifications: None BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. Employees must be eligible to obtain a government security clearance, participate in the ARL drug testing program, and comply with electronic and physical monitoring requirements applicable to federal contractors.
