Job Title: Senior Counsel - Commercial Leasing Location: On Site - Indianapolis, Indiana, United States Salary: $150,000-$180,000 + Bonus Skills: shopping center, retail, commercial, leasing, leases, lease, easement, agreements, dispositions, real estate About the Opportunity: Join a publicly traded commercial real estate company and become part of a collaborative legal team supporting a diverse portfolio of high-profile retail and mixed-use properties. In this role, you will play a key part in negotiating and advising on complex retail and commercial leasing transactions while partnering closely with business leaders to support strategic real estate initiatives. Responsibilities: Draft necessary legal documents and develop thoughtful conclusions and recommendations for varied real estate matters. Advise clients on high exposure or risk situations, aligning legal strategies with business risk tolerance and objectives. Create practical and innovative solutions to complex legal issues, often with no established precedent. Lead negotiations for complex, strategic, or sensitive real estate transactions, understanding long-term business impacts. Deliver challenging messages and provide direct, effective counsel to clients, even in contentious situations. Establish and leverage a broad network of relationships across the legal and business organization. Mentor and train less experienced attorneys or paralegals on legal procedures and best practices. Coordinate and lead cross-functional projects involving multiple business lines. Must-Have Skills: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Indiana. 10+ years of experience in corporate transactional real estate law, with a focus on commercial retail real estate. In-depth knowledge of shopping center leasing, reciprocal easement and operating agreements, development agreements, and property dispositions. Demonstrated experience handling a wide variety of complex real estate transactions in fast-paced environments. Strong oral and written communication skills for interaction with all levels of management and clients. Subject matter expertise in shopping center real estate transactions and practices. Proven ability to both manage and lead negotiations on high-stakes deals. Nice-to-Have Skills: Experience with team coaching, development, and cross-functional leadership. Business acumen and understanding of key commercial real estate goals and priorities. Motivation and influence skills in team building contexts. Prior experience advising on the transformation and redevelopment of retail properties into mixed-use spaces.
