Job Details Job Location: BWH Bournewood Hospital, Brookline, MA 02467 Education Level: High School Diploma Salary Range: $22.00 – $35.00 hourly Shift: Various shift combinations with a requirement of every other weekend for all staff. Job Summary The Mental Health Counselor is a member of the treatment team. This incumbent is the primary patient contact and also handles milieu responsibilities. The MHC receives guidance through treatment plans and unit management. Essential Functions Assist patients in clarifying their course of treatment by providing a safe environment and performing assignments as needed. Consistently observe patients for changes in mental status and safety on unit checks. Participate in de‑escalation using early intervention skills and restraints if needed (strictly for imminent risk only) according to procedures and standards. Accompany patients through admissions, discharge, orientation, and transfer as directed. Take and record patients’ vital signs as directed. Assist with or facilitate patients’ self‑management of activities of daily living. Coordinate activities of assigned patients. Participate in discussions of patients, contributing to understanding and interventions for effective outcomes. Implement treatment plans by carrying out counselor activities outlined in the plan. Document daily patient participation in treatment and observed responses to interventions. Adhere to policies surrounding boundaries, patient confidentiality, and stay up to date on required trainings. Qualifications Qualifications are required to perform the duties outlined above. Candidates must meet all physical criteria and hold the necessary credentials to work as a Mental Health Counselor. Physical Criteria Must be able to walk the grounds of the facility and potentially sprint short distances. Must be able to assist with patient care involving lifting, turning, and restraining patients if needed. Must be able to lift 50–60 pounds.
