Accounting Clerk

SUMMARY: The Accounting Clerk - Billing performs routine tasks to complete customer monthly billing process and procedures: Verify and maintain the accuracy of billing documents or records, update and maintain accounting journals, ledgers and other records that detail financial transactions, operate and enter data into computer systems using multiple computer programs, reconcile records internally with colleagues/management, or externally with vendors or customers, investigate questionable data and information and recommend actions to resolve discrepancies. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
• Prepare/audit final Water and Sewer bills for distribution to customers
• Review billing transactions and documents for accuracy; issue and record billing adjustments as needed in accordance with company/departmental policy and procedures
• Proficient in CIS billing system to accurately bill utility customers on a routine basis
• Investigate billing exceptions for inaccuracies in billing and request work orders as needed to resolve exceptions
• Follow established billing protocol to keep accounts current in b9illing system
• Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with departmental and company policy and accepted accounting practices
• Update and maintain accounting journals, ledgers and other records related to financial information, and perform related month and year-end close duties
• Gather and assembly data for report preparation as needed
• Other clerical accounting duties may be assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma or equivalent GED required; at least 1year of experience in billing preparation, audit, and reporting preferred.
• Basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills, and reasonable problem-solving skills.
• Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner.
• Ability to work independently with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
• Basic knowledge of methods used in maintaining customer accounts and records.
• Basic knowledge of office terminology, procedures, routines, and equipment.
• Basic knowledge of business arithmetic and English.
• Mental alertness; good judgment; accuracy and integrity. LANGUAGE SKILLS:
• Ability to-effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers or the public.
• Must possess good customer service skills and oral and written communication skills. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
• Ability to perform basic mathematical computations and basic data entry skills on spreadsheets. REASONING ABILITY:
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
• Possession of a valid Georgia Driver's License and good driving record.
