Objective : Maximize the long-term value of the firm by helping clients and colleagues and contribute to a working environment based on pursuit of excellence, accountability, integrity, teamwork, and respect.

Reporting Responsibility : Paralegal will report to assigned attorney, and their Department Head, as appropriate. 

Educational and Experience Requirements : 3-5 years of experience as a bankruptcy legal assistant; Bachelor’s degree or a certificate from an ABA approved school is preferred; excellent communication skills; proficient computer skills; organizational ability and attention to detail; professional attitude and appearance; excellent writing skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong working knowledge of the Bankruptcy Code, local rules, and Chapter 7 practice; Proficiency with bankruptcy preparation software (Best Case or similar) and CM/ECF; Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially with clients under financial stress; Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail under pressure; Able to leverage technology to work efficiently

Responsibilities/Accountabilities/Essential functions : Parlaegal will strive to continuously meet or exceed our client’s expectations while supporting the department and maintaining a very high standard of professionalism, attention to detail, and confidentiality.  Functions to be performed include, but are not limited to:

Primary Responsibilities:

• Prepare Chapter 7 petitions, schedules, statements of financial affairs, and means test calculations
• Gather and analyze client financial documents (pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, credit reports)
• E-file petitions and pleadings via CM/ECF and monitor case deadlines
• Prepare clients and attorneys for 341 meetings of creditors
• Communicate with clients, trustees, and creditors throughout the case
• Draft reaffirmation agreements, motions, and routine correspondence
• Calendar and monitor court dates and manage client information
• Ensure clients receive a positive experience
• Help other departments as needed

Docketing/Calendaring:

• Docket all dates; schedule and coordinate appointments
• Follow-up on dates via telephone calls or correspondence
• Follow-up on assignments with Attorney so deadlines are met

File Organization:

• Ensure electronic file is complete and kept pursuant to firm procedure
• Case management and document organization

Timekeeping:

• Record billable and unbillable (client and administrative) time spent in the correct file matters

Drafting/Editing of Documents:

• Assist in drafting documents as directed by Attorney, (including petition, pleadings, etc.); edit and finalize Attorney work product

Filing:

• Finalize, prepare, and file documents with the Courts per Attorney direction

Software:

• Microsoft Office 365 Application Suite
• BestCase
• ProLaw

Work Week:

• Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
