Clinical Supervisor

The Clinical Supervisor oversees the clinical supervision of counselors in training or working towards certification/licensure and provides guidance to the counseling team. They help patients identify and leverage strengths for social, educational, and occupational goals, supporting their transition to a drug-free life. Reporting to the Program Director, the Clinical Supervisor ensures adherence to schedules, program policies, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include supervising and mentoring counselors, providing feedback and documentation; conducting one-on-one and group therapy sessions; providing hands-on training through observation and case record review; facilitating weekly supervision sessions with feedback and mentoring; conducting regular counseling sessions as required by regulations; developing and revising patient treatment plans, maintaining comprehensive records; documenting patient contacts and ensuring case-management follow-ups; implementing new programs and advising on caseload management; leading and participating in treatment team meetings; providing in-service training and staying updated on addiction treatment trends; coordinating care with community providers and handling crisis interventions; conducting peer file reviews and assessing clinical service quality; ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and accrediting agencies; encouraging unlicensed counselors to obtain licensure/certification; and participating in community and public relations activities.

Minimum requirements include compliance with federal and state regulations for certification, licensure, and degree; strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work independently under pressure and handle multiple tasks; proper judgment with confidential and sensitive issues; effective decision-making in stressful situations; knowledge of human behavior and rehabilitation of drug-dependent patients; familiarity with the substance abuse population and treatment planning; basic computer skills and proficiency with office equipment.

Physical requirements and working conditions include effective communication skills by phone or in person; adequate vision for reading correspondence, computer screens, and forms; prolonged sitting with some bending, stooping, or stretching; ability to handle variable workloads and high-stress levels; standard medical office environment; interaction with patients who may be ill, have infectious diseases, mental health diagnoses, or involvement in the criminal justice system; and long periods of keyboarding.
