Legal Intern

Overview The Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC), the state’s voice for millions of Ohio residential utility consumers, seeks a Legal Intern to assist with consumer advocacy and legal analysis. The internship focuses on consumer rights in the regulation of electric, natural gas, telephone, and water utilities. Responsibilities Research laws, legal precedent, and relevant information for OCC’s consumer advocacy. Draft pleadings and portions of legal briefs. Review proposed legislation from the Ohio General Assembly. Assist with discovery, witness preparation, and participation in evidentiary proceedings at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. Support the Consumer Counsel, Deputy Consumer Counsel/Legal Director, and other attorneys as needed. Qualifications Completed first year of an accredited law school. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in online research tools (e.g., Lexis) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Demonstrated interest in public service and consumer advocacy. Employment Details This is a part‑time position during the school year, with the opportunity for increased hours during the summer.
