Role Description The Behavior Assistant is a full-time hybrid role based in Union, NJ, with some work-from-home flexibility. This role supports individuals and families by implementing behavior plans developed by licensed clinicians, using evidence-informed strategies to improve daily living, coping, and social skills. Day-to-day tasks include meeting with clients in home and community settings, modeling behavior interventions for caregivers, and documenting sessions in a timely and accurate manner. The Behavior Assistant collaborates with therapists, case managers, and other providers, participates in team meetings, and communicates progress and concerns to supervising clinicians. The role also involves maintaining professional boundaries, following agency and state guidelines, and engaging in required training and supervision. Qualifications Strong Interpersonal Skills to build trust, rapport, and collaborative relationships with youth, caregivers, and team members. Foundational knowledge of Psychology and Mental Health to understand common diagnoses, behavior patterns, and therapeutic goals. Effective Communication skills, including clear verbal communication, active listening, and concise written documentation. Understanding of Behavioral Health principles, including behavior modification, reinforcement strategies, and crisis de-escalation approaches. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field preferred. Experience working with children, adolescents, or families in community or home-based settings is strongly preferred. Ability to work a consistent full-time schedule, travel locally in Union, NJ and surrounding areas, and maintain reliable transportation as needed. Comfort working in diverse communities and commitment to inclusive, non-discriminatory, and trauma-informed practice.
