Human Resources Generalist

Position Summary The Human Resources Generalist provides administrative support to the daily operations of the HR function and reports directly to the Director of Human Resources. As part of the Operations team supporting TalkingParents and Bit-Wizards, this is a support role focused on the administrative side of HR, including the onboarding and offboarding of employees. The HR Generalist serves as an early point of contact for staff, helps maintain accurate and confidential records, and supports compliance with company policy and applicable employment laws. Success in this role requires strong administrative skills, attention to detail, discretion, and a general knowledge of HR best practices. This position is well-suited to someone beginning a career in Human Resources. Work Environment This is a full-time, exempt position on the Operations team, supporting both TalkingParents and Bit-Wizards. The role is primarily performed in a professional office environment during standard business hours. The position involves regular use of standard office equipment and HR systems and requires the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Occasional flexibility may be needed to support onboarding events, recruiting activities, or time-sensitive HR initiatives. Other miscellaneous tasks, errands, and travel may be required on occasion. Position Responsibilities Coordinate the administrative onboarding process for new hires, including new-hire paperwork, background checks, I-9 verification, and first-day setup. Facilitate new-hire orientation and ensure employees have the information and access needed to begin work. Manage the administrative offboarding process, including exit paperwork, benefits notifications, and return of company property. Support the exit interview process and document feedback for the Director of Human Resources. Maintain accurate and confidential employee records within the HRIS and personnel files. Process employee status changes, such as new hires, promotions, terminations, and updates to pay or position. Support benefits administration, including enrollment, changes, and employee questions. Support the administrative side of employee leave, including tracking, required paperwork, and correspondence, escalating eligibility and complex determinations to the Director of Human Resources. Respond to employment verification requests and unemployment claim notices. Provide accurate and timely employee data to support payroll processing. Prepare HR documents, correspondence, and reports as needed. Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including recordkeeping and posting requirements. Help apply company policies consistently and fairly across the organization. Conduct regular audits of HR files and personnel records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with retention requirements. Assist with audits, required reporting, and related documentation. Support recruiting by posting job listings, scheduling interviews, coordinating candidate communication, and tracking applicants. Coordinate training logistics and track completion of required and compliance training. Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions regarding policies, benefits, and general HR matters, and elevate complex or sensitive issues to the Director of Human Resources. Support additional HR projects and initiatives as assigned. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Strong administrative and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail. General knowledge of HR best practices and applicable employment laws. High level of discretion and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, professionally, and with discretion across all levels of the organization. Proficiency with standard office software and the ability to learn HR systems quickly. Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to manage multiple priorities, follow established processes, and meet deadlines. Preferred Associate or bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field. Prior administrative or office experience. Prior human resources experience. Progress toward or interest in pursuing HR certification.
