Financial Analyst

Financial AnalystReporting to the Director of Budget & Planning, the Financial Analyst supports financial planning and decision-making through budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and data analysis. The role works closely with academic and administrative departments to monitor performance, control costs, and ensure compliance, while identifying opportunities to improve processes and systems. A core responsibility is managing position control (roster tracking) to align staffing plans with budgets and support informed resource decisions. The Financial Analyst also provides Workday support and training and contributes to the institution's long-term financial sustainability.ResponsibilitiesBudget Development & ManagementAssist in the preparation, consolidation, and monitoring of annual budgets and forecasts.Collaborate with department heads to gather financial data and ensure alignment with organizational goals.Maintenance of position control (roster) records and tasks, using judgment to escalate approval decisionsFinancial Analysis & ReportingAnalyze budget variances and provide actionable insights to improve financial performance.Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.Weekly reconciliation of position budget to operating budgetAnalysis of headcount trends across position types and divisionsForecasting, Planning & Budget OversightDevelop financial models to support forecasting and long-term planning.Review insufficient fund notifications and collaborate with departments to post budget amendments as needed.Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to inform strategic decision-making.Cost Control & ComplianceMonitor expenditures and recommend cost-saving initiatives.Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and external regulations.System & Process ImprovementSupport the implementation and enhancement of budgeting tools and financial systems.Streamline reporting processes to improve accuracy and efficiency.Training & Operational SupportProvide training and guidance to staff on Workday financial systems and budget procedures.Act as Expense Operations Lead (approver), ensuring submissions are accurate, policy-compliant, and properly documented.QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree required.
