Position Title UTS - Temporary 911 Telecommunicator at UNC Chapel Hill Job Location Chapel Hill, NC Employment Type Temporary (11‑month contract) / Full‑time (40 hours per week). Must cover 24/7/365 operations with an 84‑hour work cycle every two weeks. Salary $23.00 – $24.00 per hour, depending on experience. Responsibilities Operate multiple computer systems simultaneously, including CAD (Computer‑Aided Dispatch), DCIN (Division of Criminal Information Network), and various alarm systems. Manage computerized multi‑line/channel telephone and radio systems, performing continuous multi‑task duties. Act as a vital link, listening, documenting, and communicating clearly and accurately, both verbally and in writing, over the telephone, radio, and in person. Accurately interpret audible noises, signals, and tones from various computer operating systems and programs. Ensure continued, uninterrupted university operations during adverse weather and/or emergency situations that may require university closure. Employees must report to work when scheduled during such events. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience (preferred 3+ years in 911 telecommunications). Basic Telecommunicator Certification from a state criminal justice institution (required before start). Division of Criminal Information (DCIN) Operator Certification (required before start).
