The unit cares for adult patients with a range of conditions, including respiratory illnesses, gastrointestinal issues, sepsis, congestive heart failure, diabetes, and behavioral health concerns. Patient ratios may vary, with an average of 1 RN to 4-6 patients, potentially increasing during surge times. Support staff includes CNAs, who are trained in additional skills, and a unit secretary on the day shift only. The RN will work with a hospitalist team available 24/7 and intensives for consults as needed. Telemetry monitoring will be conducted remotely. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC, with specific equipment including IV pumps and patient safety nets. Traveling staff may be required to float between units based on patient care needs and staffing demands, displaying adaptability and clinical flexibility. There is no on-call requirement, but travelers will work holidays as outlined in expectations. The culture of the unit promotes a positive learning environment with a busy pace. The scrub color required for this position is navy blue.
