Job Title: MedSurg/Tele Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience License: Current RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience - BLS - ACLS - NIHSS Description: Nursing staff will provide care to patients in the Emergency Observation Unit. The unit consists of 10 beds with an average daily census of 8 patients. Common patient types include those presenting with chest pain, syncope, and angina. Nurse-patient ratios will be 1:5. Support within the department includes a supervisor, charge RN (who may or may not have patients), and resource RN for admissions and discharges. Medical staff will be available 24/7, but not dedicated to this unit specifically. Phlebotomy services will be a combined effort involving RNs and an IV team. Floating to other nursing units may be required, with a focus on adaptability and clinical flexibility. Traveling nurses will be the first to float based on patient care needs and staffing demands. The technology used includes an EMR system and medication dispensing units. Nurses will manage general Med/Tele skills and various patient care procedures. A weekend rotation is expected, and holiday work is anticipated for 75% of the holidays. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Additional skills required include cardiac rhythm interpretation and management of various medical devices. The department promotes a team-oriented culture with activities to foster camaraderie among staff.
