Boiler/HRSG/Packaged Module Engineer Location: Overland Park, KS; Houston, TX; Denver, CO; Ann Arbor, MI. Company: Black & Veatch. Overview Support projects involving steam generation, draft, and air‑quality control equipment across the power and oil & gas industries. Work on feasibility studies, design code applications, procurement, commissioning, and performance support for both small services and large EPC projects. Key Responsibilities Critically think through issues clients experience with steam generation, draft, and air‑quality control equipment and identify potential resolutions. Apply design codes (e.g., ASME Section VIII, Division I; NFPA 85, NFPA 497) and federal regulations (40 CFR 60, 75, 63). Navigate, interpret, and apply codes. Develop technical specifications for procurement of steam generation, draft, and air‑quality control equipment. Perform technical evaluations of supplier bids, support award decisions, and level bids against each other. Coordinate with manufacturers to select technically acceptable design solutions. Review supplier drawings and documents for completeness, design conformance, and contract compliance. Communicate with other engineering disciplines to integrate equipment designs. Attend factory‑acceptance tests, identify issues, or confirm equipment readiness. Support startup and commissioning teams. Develop calculations to support design, applying basic scientific and engineering principles. Write reports summarizing completed work and study findings. Assist proposal efforts, estimate hours, and draft proposal documents. Interface with clients and lead project meetings. Present at technical conferences when opportunities arise. Mentor junior staff to develop engineering skills. Travel up to 25 % of the time; occasional international travel for oil & gas projects. Preferred Qualifications Experience in LNG (including offshore LNG) and in ammonia, urea, and fertilizer plants. Experience with coal‑fired power plants, combustion turbines, steam turbines, boilers, and HRSGs. Experience with the steam cycle used in power production and its water systems. Experience with draft and air‑quality control systems for fuel combustion. Experience with auxiliary boilers for industrial processes. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel for calculations. Competency in technical writing; writing sample requested. Familiarity with industrial facility operations and safety expectations. Exposure to other engineering disciplines (electrical, civil, structural, I&C, chemical) and project groups. Knowledge of US EPA regulations, including BACT, Four‑Factor analysis, and emissions compliance via CEMS and EPA Part 60 methods. Experience with NFPA 85 and ASME Section VIII, Div 1. Mentoring skills and strong written and verbal communication abilities. Excellent organization and time‑management skills, with ability to handle multiple projects. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering experience. Licensed Professional Engineer in the USA and/or Canada.
