Under the general direction of Supervising Special Investigator I (SSI I), (non-peace officer), the Special Investigator (SI) (non-peace officer), conducts diverse administrative, civil, and criminal investigations against the professional licensees of the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA). Incumbents may work independently or with a group of investigators (non-sworn), in executing a lawful and thorough investigation of alleged violations and pursue cases for prosecution or hearing where applicable.

Special Requirements Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) - Title 11, Section 703(d) of the California Code of Regulations requires criminal record checks of all personnel who have access to Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI). In accordance to DCA's (CORI) procedures, clearance shall be maintained while employed in a CORI-designated position. Conflict of Interest Regulation:
This position is subject to Title 16, section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affairs' Conflict of Interest Regulations. The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1st, and within 30 days of leaving office.

The incumbent shall participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Employer Pull Notice Program, which is a process for providing the Department with a report showing the driver's current public record as recorded by the DMV, and any subsequent convictions, failures to appear, accidents, driver's license suspensions, driver's license revocations, or any other actions taken against the driving privilege or license, added to the driver's DMV record.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
The Statement of Qualifications serves as documentation of each candidate's ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing and should be typed and no more than two pages, single spaced, no smaller than 11 pt. font. Please refer to the "Desirable Qualifications" section when developing your responses. Your SOQ must be titled "Statement of Qualifications - BRN Special Investigator" and contain the following questions and your responses. Please do not use AI when preparing your responses. The SOQ is intended to assess your individual writing and communication skills. You may be asked to discuss the content of your SOQ if selected for an interview.
1. Describe your knowledge and experience related to administrative and/or criminal investigations. Please include the approximate number of investigations conducted, type of investigations and the number of investigative reports you have completed.
2. Describe your investigative interview experience with the subject of a case. Specify the settings of the interview (in-person, virtual, and/or telephonic).
3. Describe your experience managing a high volume of complex cases. What size caseload were you responsible for? Explain the average length of time it took to complete the investigation.
