The Assistant Director is full-time twelve-month position that requires working with the Director and Teachers to plan and implement an appropriate educational program. The Assistant Director assists the Director in daily administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of Kids on Campus and to provide excellent services to faculty, students, and staff of SCU. Responsibilities include administering operations, promoting organizational goals, and building community relationships. The Assistant Director works with others in the community to support the KOC Mission and Vision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate in a team teaching situation that includes administration, teachers, assistant teachers, and student workers.
- Assist with administrative, supervisory, and operational duties necessary to maintain a quality early childhood program.
- Work with all aspects of the organization’s data management including: financial, board, employee, and administrative.
- Create and coordinate a variety of administrative systems.
- Hire, train, supervise, schedule and maintain confidential files of SCU student staff.
- Communicate with families, teachers, and administrators regularly and in a professional manner.
Specific Duties:
A. Organizational
- Assist in maintaining and updating the program enrollment database.
- Assist in the admissions process for students and families.
- Establish and maintain good communication with the SCU community, KOC staff, and families.
- Help to maintain the KOC environment and ensure healthy and safe conditions of the facility, grounds and equipment.
- Respond to KOC office phone and email inquiries.
- Performs routine computer tasks.
- Maintains confidential files of KOC children and SCU student staff.
- Prepare tuition deposits and payment requests.
- Collect and maintain records of tuition and fees.
- Performs other administrative support duties as assigned by the KOC Director.
- Update and create correspondence, record financial information, organize documents in the KOC data base.
- Compose and prepare correspondence, reports, and memoranda.
B. Team Involvement
- Communicate and work cooperatively and respectfully with all team-members.
- Assist as needed in the process of hiring new KOC team-members.
- Participate in the training, mentoring, supervision, and assessment of assistant teachers.
- Strive for classroom practices that are consistent with the KOC program philosophy.
- Organize staff schedules and duties and monitor time sheets.
- Assist and support the KOC teaching staff and provide classroom supervision when needed.
- Maintain and organize faculty area, kitchen, and storage room operation and supplies.
- Organize, prepare and supervise snack distribution.
- Inform KOC Director of any special needs or problems concerning the program.
- Participate in opportunities for professional growth and development.
- Support the professional growth of teachers.
- Help to plan and participate in all KOC meetings and functions.
- Support parent education and school/family partnerships.
- Support all KOC policies.
- Establish and maintain good communication with staff and families.
C. Administrative Practice
- Provide for the safety and well being of all children.
- Coordinate responsibilities with teachers to develop consistent programing between classes.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, policies, and administrative regulations.
- Assist in complying with state licensing guidelines and maintaining Community Care.
- Licensing records.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with staff and families using diplomacy and sensitivity.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of KOC events.
- Assist in marketing KOC events to campus community.
- Other duties as assigned.
Provides Work Direction
Trains, supervises, and schedules student staff and substitute teachers.
Qualifications

- Fingerprint/child abuse clearance through California state licensing.
- Current (within the last year) negative T.B. test and physical examination.
Knowledge
Candidate must have an understanding of child development and a constructivist/play-based approach to education for young children
Skills
The candidate must have:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer skills and knowledge of modern office methods and procedures
Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of English word usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Perform secretarial, administrative and clerical duties with accuracy and professionalism
Education
- Child Development or Early Childhood course work, 12 units minimum, in each of the following four areas: child development, curriculum, child/family and community and infant/toddler development required.
Work Experience
- Three years teaching experience in a day care facility required.
