Household & Hospitality Manager

Mission-driven, creative, academic married couple in Cambridge is seeking a highly organized, proactive, warm, and resourceful Household & Hospitality Manager to help their home and in-person life run beautifully. The couple does not have children, so there are no childcare responsibilities . They may welcome a small dog into the household in the future, so someone who genuinely loves dogs and would be happy to provide occasional pet-related support would be a wonderful fit. This is a hands-on, locally based role focused on household operations, vendor and property coordination, hospitality, entertaining, errands, and event support . The ideal person enjoys being the capable person behind the scenes who notices what needs attention, takes ownership, follows through, and makes a busy household feel calm, welcoming, organized, and well cared for. This is not primarily an Executive Assistant or desk-based administrative role . Remote executive and administrative support is handled separately. Instead, this person will serve as the household's trusted on-the-ground presence in Cambridge. The household is lively, creative, intellectually curious, socially connected, travel-heavy, and regularly hosts guests, dinner parties, and gatherings. Core Responsibilities Household Operations & Home Management Oversee the day-to-day practical needs of the Cambridge household. Keep the home stocked with groceries, household essentials, and entertaining supplies. Handle errands, returns, exchanges, pickups, and drop-offs. Maintain household organization, supplies, backstock, and storage systems. Proactively identify household needs and help keep the home organized, functional, and guest-ready. Coordinate seasonal needs, holiday decorating, and special home projects. Prepare and reset the home before and after travel, guests, gatherings, and events. Serve as a reliable local point person while the couple is traveling. Coordinate deliveries, household services, and maintenance needs. Serve as the primary on-site contact for household vendors and service providers. Research, schedule, and coordinate contractors, gardeners, painters, cleaners, repair technicians, delivery teams, and other vendors. Coordinate repairs, maintenance, installations, and home improvement projects. Obtain and compare quotes when appropriate. Be physically present when needed to provide access, oversee work, and ensure projects are completed properly. Follow up on outstanding work and maintain relationships with trusted local vendors. Prepare the home for dinner parties, overnight guests, gatherings, and special occasions. Create a warm, polished, and welcoming environment for guests. Coordinate food and beverage logistics, table settings, florals, rentals, staffing, and other hospitality details. Source groceries, flowers, decor, gifts, and other event supplies. Lead table setup and presentation. Be physically present during gatherings as needed, including helping with drinks, food service, and guest needs. Reset the household after events. Create repeatable systems and checklists for entertaining. An eye for beauty, interiors, flowers, table settings, gifting, wrapping, decor, or thoughtful environments would be especially appreciated. Events & Gatherings The household hosts approximately 6-10 events per year , including formal dinner parties, salons, and other gatherings. Coordinate the practical planning and execution of household events. Work with the couple and their remote team on on-the-ground execution. Coordinate caterers, florists, rentals, staffing, deliveries, and other event vendors. Manage preparation timelines and household readiness. Be physically present for select events, including setup, event support, and post-event reset. Troubleshoot issues and help ensure gatherings run smoothly behind the scenes. Lifestyle & Local Support Handle local errands and household-related shopping. Assist with gift, furniture, decor, and flower sourcing. Coordinate deliveries and receive household items. Assist with packing, unpacking, and household preparation around travel. Help with special household projects as needed. Provide occasional support for a future small dog, if and when one joins the household. Ideal Candidate We're looking for someone who is: Local to Cambridge/Boston and able to be physically present regularly. Highly organized, dependable, proactive, and detail-oriented. Excellent at follow-through and closing loops without constant oversight. Comfortable owning tasks and household projects from start to finish. Resourceful and able to solve practical problems independently. Warm, grounded, discreet, trustworthy, and service-oriented. An excellent communicator. Comfortable managing vendors and contractors. Comfortable with hands‑on tasks and errands, not just computer-based work. Flexible and able to move easily between household, vendor, hospitality, and event needs. Comfortable working collaboratively with a remote Executive Assistant and broader team. Able to anticipate needs and proactively solve problems. Interested in developing a trusted, long-term relationship with the household. Role Structure Approximately 10-20 hours per week , depending on household needs, season, travel, events, and special projects. Primarily in-person in Cambridge , with some tasks that may be handled remotely. Flexible schedule during quieter periods, with availability needed for vendor appointments, household projects, guests, and events. Most work will take place during weekdays. Occasional evening or weekend availability is required for gatherings and special events. Entertaining needs are typically heavier in May and June and September-December . January through April are typically quieter due to travel. 60-day trial period to begin. Potential to grow into a larger or full-time role for an exceptional long-term fit. Compensation $35/hour The role is designed to offer meaningful flexibility. Some weeks and months may be quieter, while periods involving entertaining, events, household projects, or vendor coordination may require additional availability.
