Position Overview

Join our dedicated team in a progressive care unit (PCU) where excellence in patient care is our highest priority. We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to provide quality care to patients with complex medical conditions, specifically focusing on stroke cases. This role requires teamwork, adaptability, and a commitment to meeting the unique needs of each patient.

Job Details

• Unit Type: Stepdown Acute
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
• Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years

Required Certifications

• ACLS
• BLS Certification
• NIHSS

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive care to patients, with a primary focus on stroke management.
• Titrate medications such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nicardipine, and Dobutamine as required.
• Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Engage in patient and family education regarding care plans and health management.
• Monitor patients' vital signs and health status, promptly addressing any changes in condition.

Patient Care Information

This unit specializes in conditions such as:

• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Pneumonia (PNA)
• Sepsis
• Stroke/TIA
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
• Pulmonary Embolism (PE)
• Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)

Team Structure

• Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
• Support Staff: Nurse aids with a ratio of 1:8 when full
• Monitoring: Telemetry with a dedicated monitor tech in the ICU; RNs responsible for reading strips

Work Schedule

• 12-hour shifts with self-scheduling options
• Expectation to work every third weekend, with opportunities for additional shifts
• Holiday scheduling based on rotation
• First to float within units as necessary

Dress Code

Scrubs should be navy tops and bottoms. Adherence to the dress code is mandatory for compliance with patient safety protocols.

Orientation

New hires will undergo three shifts of orientation on their assigned schedule to ensure familiarity with unit protocols and patient care procedures.
