PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) specializing in stepdown care. The role involves working night shifts with a focus on providing high-quality patient care for various acute medical conditions.

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients in a stepdown unit, ensuring adherence to best practices and protocols.
• Monitor and manage patients with conditions such as CHF, pneumonia, sepsis, stroke/TIA, COPD, pulmonary embolism, and acute kidney injury.
• Titrate intravenous medication drips including amiodarone, Cardizem, heparin, nicardipine, and dobutamine as per patient needs.
• Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team to promote patient recovery and enhance the overall patient experience.
• Utilize virtual nursing technologies to assist with patient monitoring during assigned shifts.
• Participate in unit-specific orientation for a smooth transition into the role.

Shift Information

• 12-hour night shifts.
• Self-scheduling with an expectation to work one additional shift within a six-week period.
• Weekend commitment of every third weekend, with optional additional shifts available.
• Holiday coverage is shared within the team, rotating based on weekend schedules.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a similar acute care setting.
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
• Demonstrated competency in caring for stroke patients and maintaining patient safety.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Must be able to arrive at the facility within one hour if called in during off-hours.

Unit Information

• A 24-bed Progressive Care Unit with patient ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:5.
• On-site monitor technicians support RNs with telemetry and patient assessments.
• All staff members are required to comply with strict fingernail policies, prohibiting artificial nails in patient care areas.

Dress Code

Staff are required to wear navy tops and bottoms as per departmental guidelines.

Orientation

Completing three shifts of unit-specific orientation is mandatory to ensure all staff are familiar with protocols and expectations.
