Opening: Assistant General Manager
Location: Wasilla, AK
Pay: $70,000 - $80,000 DOE
Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable and motivated Assistant General Manager to support the daily operations of a local hardware store. This is a hands-on leadership position that will assist across various departments, including sales, customer service, inventory, warehouse operations, and general store activities. The ideal candidate is adaptable, organized, and comfortable stepping into different areas of the business as needed. This individual will work closely with the General Manager and staff to maintain efficient operations, provide excellent customer service, and help ensure the store runs smoothly.
Key Responsibilities

• Assist the General Manager with daily store operations and overall business activities
• Provide leadership and support to employees across various departments
• Assist with customer service, sales, and product recommendations as needed
• Support daily opening and closing procedures and ensure store standards are maintained
• Help coordinate activities between sales, warehouse, inventory, and other departments
• Assist with inventory management, receiving, stocking, cycle counts, and product organization
• Monitor product availability and help identify inventory needs
• Assist with ordering, special orders, and coordinating product deliveries
• Help address customer questions, concerns, and service issues in a professional manner
• Support employees with day-to-day questions, priorities, and operational needs
• Assist with training and onboarding new employees as needed
• Help ensure employees follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards
• Assist with maintaining clean, organized, and well-stocked sales, warehouse, and work areas
• Step into various departments and responsibilities based on business needs
• Help identify opportunities to improve store operations, customer service, and sales
• Communicate effectively with the General Manager regarding staffing, inventory, customer concerns, and operational issues
• Lead by example and promote a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment

Qualifications

• Previous management, supervisory, retail, sales, or operations experience preferred
• Hardware, building materials, construction, or related industry experience is a plus
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to lead, motivate, and work effectively with a team
• Highly adaptable and willing to assist in multiple areas of the business
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize tasks and make sound decisions in a fast paced environment
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn internal systems
• Reliable, self-motivated, and willing to take initiative
• Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to daily operations
• Ability and willingness to learn a variety of products, departments, and store procedures

Work Environment

• Combination of retail sales floor, office, warehouse, and potentially outdoor yard environment
• Requires frequent interaction with customers and employees across multiple departments
• May require standing and walking for extended periods
• May require occasional lifting, moving, and handling of hardware, tools, building materials, and other products
• Fast paced, hands-on environment requiring flexibility and the ability to shift between responsibilities as business needs change
