Associate Director

Position Summary The Associate Director assists in all elements of service delivery and program development for students registered with the CAE with various disabilities. Provides information to UCLA students who suspect that they may have a disability and makes referrals to on-campus and off-campus resources; provides specialized disability-related counseling for students; coordinates and explains services for students served by CAE; leads and/or co-facilitates support groups and instructs small group workshops in disability management and advocacy; and provides disability awareness presentations for campus faculty, staff and students. Prepares written program materials, and assists, when necessary, in other CAE services and functions. Reporting to the CAE Director, the Associate Director oversees the CAE Disability Specialist (DS) team and manages the documentation review and intake process. Major duties include supervising CAE Disability Specialists, managing the documentation review process, providing leadership to the DS team, identifying strategies, establishing staffing levels and caseloads, establishing communication mechanisms that are responsive to the students and to the faculty; engaging in outreach and education for the faculty to achieve desired outcomes and establishing needed linkages with other campus and community organizations such as Counseling and Psychological Services, Athletics, Career Center, Academic Advisors, and Associate Deans in the professional schools; and providing guidance and support to Disability Specialists. Caseload will include high-resource students needing high-level support. As a member of the CAE Leadership Team, helps manage resources (space, budget, personnel); develops program materials; and otherwise assists as needed in the CAE. Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications Professional experience in post-secondary settings with students who have LD, ADHD, ABI and psychological disabilities, and working knowledge of support services and accommodation methods. (Required) Ability to determine appropriate support services and accommodations based on documentation appropriate for students with LD, ADHD, ABI, ASD and psychological disabilities. (Required) Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and Assembly Bill 746 as they pertain to students with LD, ADHD, ABI, and psychological disabilities. (Required) Working knowledge of UC Guidelines and Practices, and University Policy as they pertain to students with LD, ADHD, ABI, and psychological disabilities. (Preferred) Knowledge and ability to provide counseling on disability management and compensatory strategies for students with LD, ADHD, and ABI to effectively manage their disabilities. (Required) Ability to organize and teach workshops and support groups to assist LD/ADHD/ABI students to develop personal understanding about disability-related issues. (Preferred) Knowledge of and experience with factors interfering with academic achievement (e.g., social/emotional, bilingual/bicultural, cognitive/aptitude deficiencies) allowing for differential diagnoses of various learning problems. (Required) Knowledge of adaptive computer technology and specialized software. (Preferred) Ability to work collaboratively with individuals, departments and organizations on and off campus. (Required) Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing to obtain and convey information. (Required) Interpersonal skills to interact sensitively with students (with various disabilities and from diverse backgrounds) and with campus colleagues, governmental officials and community representatives. (Required) Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members, subordinates and management. (Required) Ability to assist in general office functions when needed. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities or Special Education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
