FLSA Status : Full Time - exempt
Reports to: Center Director

Schedule: 40 hours exempt, M-F 9:00am-5:30pm (hours vary depending on program needs, including weekends and on-calls)

Supervises: Assistant Christian Education Coordinator, Program Aides

Rate of Pay : $70,000-$72,800 annually

Position Summary

The Christian Education Coordinator is a ministry position providing leadership and spiritual care across all Red Shield family ministries. The CEC is responsible for the overall management of children's and student programming, including the planning, implementation, and promotion of recreational and educational before/after-school and summer programs. This role supervises program staff and volunteers, ensures all operations meet state health and safety standards, creates and writes program policies, maintains accurate records, and integrates the Christian faith into all programming.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management

• Design and deliver programming that is intentionally Christ-centered, integrating consistent discipleship opportunities through daily prayer, Scripture reading, devotions, weekly chapel services, and other spiritually formative practices.
• Provide daily, on-site supervision for all childcare programs and enrichment activities, interacting directly with children and students.
• Administer programs to meet or exceed legal and organizational requirements, including those from The Salvation Army, the Colorado Department of Human Services, and Child Care Licensing.
• Responsible for the Child Care Licensing Application and assisting with Salvation Army Program Department Applications.
• Oversee daily operations of the after-school program to grow enrollment to the licensed capacity of 60 students (30 by September 2027).
• Develop, implement, and evaluate innovative programs that respond to community needs and result in measurable growth.
• Adhere to The Salvation Army “Protect the Mission” child safety training and report/document all incidents according to procedure and state guidelines as a mandated reporter.
• Maintain accurate records, including outcome reports, and collaborate with leadership to manage the program budget and monitor expenses.
• Communicate professionally with staff and parents through various channels, including handbooks, e-newsletters, social media, and flyers.
• Assist with grant writing by collecting data and preparing reports for submissions related to childcare and family ministries.
• Promote programs through community events, local outreach, and social media.
• Evaluate program effectiveness and prepare reports for continuous improvement.
• Provide the Center Director with quarterly update reports.
• Attend weekly staff meetings.
• Encourage youth and adult participation in all aspects of the Corps ministry, including opportunities like youth group, Sunday worship, Bible studies, etc.
• Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all participants, with special attention to the needs and strengths of the Whittier community.

Program Staffing

• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and develop program staff and volunteers, ensuring licensing requirements are met and making termination recommendations as needed.
• Manage and retain staff by providing necessary training and conducting regular meetings for supervision, team building, and planning.
• Maintain appropriate staffing levels to meet required childcare ratios.

Curriculum and Program Schedule

• Maintain the standardized Salvation Army Intermountain Divisional curriculum for all programs, monitoring effectiveness and keeping leadership informed.
• Design, plan, and implement the summer day camp program with engaging activities, field trips, and faith integration.
• Develop curriculum and enrichment activities that balance academic support, recreation, and spiritual development.
• Work with the Recreation Coordinator and the Creative Arts and Worship Coordinator to provide additional enrichment opportunities within the program.
• Organize necessary resources such as space, materials, and equipment, and develop forms and procedures to document program activities.
• Communicate regularly with staff about program goals and activities.

Family Ministries & Church Engagement

• Assist with organizing fellowship events (e.g., Harvest Celebration, Christmas outreach) and support discipleship pathways like small groups and Bible studies.
• Provide ongoing follow-up with families to invite them into church worship and all Corps ministries.

• Contribute to seasonal programs like Angel Tree Toy program and Christmas Red Kettles, and Summer Camp as needed

• Assist the local Corps Officer(s) with special assignments and projects as requested, such as functions and Troops programming, as needed.

Outcome Evaluation

Conduct regular program evaluations by completing required assessments, compiling reports on outcomes, and proposing improvements to leadership

Education/Experience, Skills, Qualities, Requirements

Required:

• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Ability to supervise and support staff and volunteers
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and other standard administrative software
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Must be 21 years of age or older for driving purposes
• Within 30 days of hire, the following must be submitted: fingerprints and certifications in First Aid, CPR, Medication Administration, and Universal Precautions from a nationally recognized provider.
• Previous experience in program development, curriculum planning, or grant writing,
• Familiarity with Colorado Department of Early Child Care and large childcare center licensing requirements.

Education and Work Experience:

• The Christian Education Coordinator must meet at least one of the following qualifications:

1. A bachelor’s degree or above in: a) Child Development; b) Child Psychology; c) Early Childhood Education; d) Early Childhood Special Education; e) Educational Leadership and Administration; f) Elementary Education; g) Family and Human Development; h) Family Studies; or i) Special Education, from an accredited college or university.
   1. Individuals with a degree in an unrelated field must have completed the 10 required ECE and must have three months (455 hours) of verified experience.
2. An associate’s degree in ECE or Child Development with the completion of the 10 required ECE courses and at least three months (455 hours) of verified experience.
3. Completed the 10 required ECE courses and must have six months (910 hours) of verified experience.
4. Two to Three Years of experience leading a licensed childcare program.

Skills

• Early Childhood Professional Credential Level 3 or above.
• Ability to use a computer, email, and new software programs with basic training.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must be a self-starter and a team player, perform well with minimum supervision.
• Bilingual English and Spanish, preferred.

This position requires driving:

• The employee must be 21 years old at a minimum (for insurance provision) and possess a valid in-state driver’s license
