Wheel Loader/Terminal Operator

Job Overview This position involves operating a front‑end loader to load trucks with granular fertilizer, performing maintenance and housekeeping work, and working at facilities that unload barges of bulk and/or break bulk products. The typical shift is 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with some extended hours and weekend work. Responsibilities Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings. Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable); including wearing appropriate PPE. Perform deckhand responsibilities such as properly securing barges, reading drafts, opening, closing, removing and placing lids, tying off barges, etc. Operate a skid loader inside a barge during the final stage of the unloading process. Set up and operate conveyor systems when applicable. Ensure the correct product is directed to the correct storage area when applicable. Clean the barge by sweeping and/or shoveling after unloading is completed. Load railcars and trucks to specifications when applicable. Complete documentation accurately, timely, and legibly. Operate heavy equipment and perform preventive maintenance when applicable. Perform other duties as assigned, including general housekeeping of the work area. Qualifications Education Required – High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience Required – None. Preferred – 1 year’s experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic mathematical skills. Ability to follow direction and use logical thought to interpret instructions and troubleshoot problems. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to use tools appropriate for the task. Ability to remain focused on exceptional customer service. Physical Demands & Requirements Ability to balance continuously. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel, and squat frequently. Ability to climb stairs and ladders to significant heights frequently. Ability to concentrate on a task without distraction continuously. At some facilities, ability to distinguish grain characteristics. Ability to distinguish odors with accuracy. Ability to enter information into a computer. Ability to grasp and reach frequently. Ability to lift, push, pull 50 lbs occasionally or continuously depending on needs. Ability to use required PPE. Ability to meet PFT and fit testing requirements. Ability to pass required FRA and DOT testing where applicable. Ability to work in confined spaces. Ability to walk safely on barge surfaces and around water. Ability to stand and walk continuously. Ability to understand and communicate verbally and in writing, including radio communications. Ability to walk safely on railcars and operate vibrators when applicable. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and alternate shifts as needed. Ability to work in high dust environments. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions. Awareness of surroundings and ability to adjust to signals or environmental changes. Environmental Conditions The work is performed both inside and outside in hot, cold, wet, humid, and dry conditions. Frequent use of personal protective equipment is required. Travel of 5%–20% may be required at some facilities for off‑site training or alternate locations. Pay Expected base pay range: $18.00 – $25.00 per hour. Actual pay offered may vary based on location, qualifications, and experience.
