Overview MasTec Civil is hiring an Assistant Construction Project Manager to join our growing team in Orlando, FL on a highway construction project. The Assistant Project Manager bears the responsibility to oversee that the construction is performed according to specification, in the most efficient manner according to schedule and under budget. For this to happen the Assistant Project Manager is expected, among other things, to follow all project related procedures and of most importance, company policy. Founded in 1987, MasTec Civil (formerly known as Condotte America), a MasTec Company, is a heavy highway contractor specializing in the construction of complex transportation projects that include roadway, bridges, interchanges, mass transit, and tolling facilities. Sustainability and safety are foundational to our culture and influence everything we do. Responsibilities Planning and Scheduling : Make a thorough study of the project to be performed. Discuss your plans, schedules, details issues and any other items with your Management team. Assess your needs fully including personnel, equipment, materials, etc. and the time frame feasible for performance. Determine your best course of action and continue planning throughout the project for possible improvements. As part of the planning phase the following items are the responsibility of the Assistant Project Manager: Field Office Site Plan, Trailers, Permits and Fees, Establishing Utilities, Employee Parking, Temp. Roads, Lay Down Areas, Tool Cribs, Insurance & Bonds, Safety & First Aid. Project Coordination : Attend all progress meetings with the Owner/Engineer, ensure required documents are submitted to the Owner in a timely manner, conduct internal scheduling meetings with Superintendents, Foremen and Subcontractors, and hold Pre-Activity Meetings prior to significant items of work (e.g., Asphalt, concrete deck placements, girder/beam erection, traffic shifts, etc.) to discuss responsibilities, means & methods, MOT requirements, safety aspects, and quality control requirements. Personnel Selection : Coordinate with HR and the Main Office in selecting key members of the management team. Manage staffing needs and enforce company policies. Supervise the Project Engineer and other engineer staff, including hiring outside Specialty Engineers when needed. Contract Documents : Familiarize yourself with contract, specifications, plans, addendums, revisions, special provisions, permits, utility relocation schedules, etc. Know payment requirements and when extra pay or claims may be warranted. Invoice & Cost Control : Review and approve all invoices, subcontractor payments and timesheets prior to processing at the Main Office. Study cost reports, note variances, provide monthly Project Status Reports, and ensure reports reflect actual field performance. Cost Management : Discuss variances with the Estimator, understand pay item estimate worksheets, evaluate cost effectiveness, and implement improvements. Document and submit change orders and claims in a timely manner, and approve budget changes and cost transfers. Subcontractor/Vendor Management : Negotiate subcontractors and vendors, ensure timely payment, manage claims, change orders, and disputes. Documentation : Ensure all project team members submit required documents such as Daily reports, accident reports, T&M Sheets, and maintain a detailed daily Diary. File project photos and meeting minutes appropriately. Public Relations : Act as the top official on project negotiations and uphold the company’s integrity in all interactions. Safety : Ensure compliance with company and OSHA safety regulations, monitor and enforce safety policies, and coordinate with the Safety Manager.
