Senior Field Service Engineer

We’re looking for Senior Field Service Engineers with strong electrical expertise and leadership experience to support critical energy infrastructure projects across the U.S. In this senior-level field role, you’ll lead testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting efforts across a wide range of electrical systems and components, ensuring safe, efficient, and accurate execution in the field. You’ll be working hands‑on with low, medium, and high voltage equipment (480V–600kV) at power plants, substations, and industrial facilities, while mentoring junior technicians and leading project crews. What You’ll Do Lead advanced testing, commissioning, and maintenance on LV–HV equipment (480V–600kV) Perform diagnostics using Doble, TTR, Power Factor, Tan Delta, VLF, DC Hi‒Pot, and resistance test equipment Test and verify electromechanical, solid‑state, and microprocessor‑based protective relays Develop test plans and execute commissioning procedures for new or upgraded systems Supervise field crews, assign tasks, and ensure safety, quality, and compliance Complete reports, test results, and job documentation using Power DB and other platforms Interface directly with customers to provide updates, gather requirements, and ensure satisfaction Enforce safety practices, LOTO protocols, and PPE usage on job sites Maintain tools, test equipment, and company vehicles in safe working conditions Mentor and train junior field technicians Troubleshoot and resolve field issues independently and on‑site Support emergency response and planned shutdown/start‑up projects Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas Lead testing of protection and control relays, verifying inputs, calibration, alarms, metering, and SCADA integration Oversee repairs and commissioning of substation relaying/control systems, including relay integration and pilot channel equipment The Experience We’re Looking For 7–10+ years of hands‑on experience in the power industry, including P&C systems and field commissioning Strong knowledge of substation equipment, MV/HV breakers, and electrical system troubleshooting Proficient with Power DB, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams Familiar with OSHA, NETA standards, and electrical safety procedures Prior experience leading crews and mentoring field technicians Ability to develop and execute test plans for complex upgrades and installations Comfortable managing shifting priorities and working with minimal supervision Additional Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field Willingness to travel up to 70% across the continental U.S. Valid driver’s license Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests Legally authorized to work in the United States Available for extended and irregular hours, including weekends and holidays Must be able to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights (100+ ft), in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments Bonus Points For Completion of a trade school program, technical college, associate degree, or skilled trade certification Prior experience working in power plants, utilities, or heavy industrial environments Familiarity with relay settings development or advanced system protection analysis NETA Level III certification preferred: journeyman or equivalent accepted Additional safety certifications or OSHA 30 A TWIC cardSupervisory experience on complex commissioning projects Benefits Competitive Compensation – Overtime potential and merit‑based raises Full Benefits – Medical, dental, and vision coverage fully paid for employees, starting the month after hire Steady Employment & Career Growth – Be part of a fast‑growing company with promotion potential 401(k) with Company Match – Traditional & Roth options + free investment guidance Top‑Tier Equipment – Provided to support you in the field Compensated Travel Time plus Per Diem – Earn while seeing new places Education Support – Paid training, certifications, and industry memberships Generous PTO – Paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave Employee Assistance Program – Legal, financial, and mental wellness support RMS Energy is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
