ADULT CORRECTIONS OFFICER RECRUIT - SHIFT WORK - CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES - STATEWIDE (WIKIWIKI)

Recruitment Number 25-0351 Locations: Kauai, Maui, Oahu. Salary: $5,542.00 per month (CO-04). Shift Work: All applicants must be available for rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Mandatory overtime may be required. Responsibilities The Adult Corrections Officer Recruit initially receives training and orientation in basic security and custodial duties; performs security and custodial duties at a variety of posts as assigned; and performs other related duties as assigned. As training progresses, the incumbent will eventually be independently responsible on an assigned shift at any post for maintaining the safekeeping and control of adult residents in group quarters and individual activities. Qualifications Legal Authorization to work: Hawaii state and U.S. citizenship, national, or permanent resident; or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent. One year of work experience that demonstrates reading, comprehension, and application of written directions suffices if high school is not completed. General Experience: One year of responsible work experience with ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively. Driver's License: Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment. Female applicants may be required for certain positions (Bona Fide Occupational Qualification). Ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays, including consecutive eight‑hour shifts with short notice. Drug screening and comprehensive background check required for conditional offers. Minimum age: 21 years at completion of Basic Corrections Recruit Class (BCRC). Compliance with firearms regulations; applicants must have no domestic violence conviction. PREA compliance: Must not have a history of sexual abuse or related convictions. Personal traits: alertness, tact, integrity, honesty, good judgment, ability to deal with inmates and employees. Physical requirements: Must be able to perform essential duties—reading, observing, restraining, searching, using handcuffs, identifying contraband, guarding, performing searches, restraining inmates, breaking up fights, carrying inmates, responding to emergencies, standing for prolonged periods, and working double shifts. Physical examination required. Probationary period: Nine months to complete BCRC and additional drug tests. Transfer policy: Must remain at assigned facility for three years. Transfer only after three years.
