This position is responsible for working with surgeons in the operating by controlling bleeding, suturing incisions and wounds and intervening if complications arise.LocationsStanford Health Care Tri-ValleyWhat you will doAssist surgeon in general and specialized surgeriesPrepare patients for surgeryProvide patient care and supportAdminister medicationsPractice surgical procedures such as controlling bleeding and suturing incisions, draping, providing exposure and handling tissue.Prepare all necessary suppliesPosition and prepare the patient on the operating tableMonitor the patient’s vital signs and heart rateStudy patient history and health assessmentsPerform CPR or other emergency measures if requiredThe RNFA may only perform as first assistant during the procedure and may not act concurrently as scrub nurseEmployee must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C-I-CARE Standards of the Hospital. C-I-CARE is the foundation of Stanford’s patient-experience and represents a framework for patient-centered interactions.Education QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) RequiredOther Graduate of a RNFA program accredited by the Certification Board for Perioperative Nursing RequiredExperience Qualifications3+ years to 5 years experience as a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) RequiredRequired Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesLEVEL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to support multiple service lines with a minimum of 2 (i.e. ortho, vascular)Trains other RNFAsCoordinate cases which require RNFA taking additional CEUsLEVEL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:Current professional liability insurance requiredPreferred Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesUnderstanding of standard practices and proceduresMedical expertise in handling and cutting tissue, suturing, providing hemostasis, and using medical devicesCan perform scrub and circulating nurse rolesExcellent understanding of multiple surgical proceduresKnowledge of aseptic and sterile techniqueStrong interpersonal communication skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment are a mustLicenses and CertificationsCA-RN (Registered Nurse) required .Current American Heart Association Certification for Basic Life Support for HealthcareProviders required .ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support required .CNOR - Certified Operating Room Nurse required .These principles apply to ALL employees:SHC Commitment to Providing an Exceptional Patient & Family ExperienceStanford Health Care sets a high standard for delivering value and an exceptional experience for our patients and families.
