JOB PURPOSE
The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) provides recovery-oriented support services to individuals receiving treatment for substance use disorders at Renew360°. The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) serves as a positive role model, assists clients in navigating treatment and recovery resources, promotes engagement in services, and supports the clinical team in delivering person-centered treatment. The role combines direct client support, recovery coaching, and case management assistance.
TIME COMMITMENT
Full-Time; approximately 40 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Recovery Support Services
· Provide peer-based and recovery-oriented support to individuals throughout the treatment process.
· Assist clients in identifying recovery goals and developing individualized recovery plans.
· Encourage participation in treatment activities, support groups, and recovery-oriented services.
· Promote hope, empowerment, self-advocacy, and personal responsibility.
· Support clients in accessing community resources, housing, employment, education, transportation, and healthcare services.
· Provide educational groups to clients as designated by the Executive Director, and the Clinical Director managing the organizational schedule.
Client Engagement
· Build supportive and professional relationships with clients.
· Assist with client orientation to treatment programs and facility expectations.
· Conduct regular check-ins with assigned clients to support engagement and retention.
· Facilitate recovery-focused activities and educational groups as appropriate.
· Encourage participation in discharge planning and continuing care services.
· Facilitates and coordinates family visits.
· Support client transportation and community linkage activities when appropriate.
Professional Development
· Participate in clinical supervision and training activities required for credentialing
· Develop competencies in peer support services, motivational interviewing, ethics,and all other areas concerning peer support services.
· Complete continuing educational requirements and recertification as defined by The CPRS credential, overseen by the Addiction Professionals Certification Board (APCBNJ),
· Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning.
Program Support
· Assist with admissions, orientation, and discharge processes.
· Support recreational, educational, and wellness activities.
· Participate in quality improvement initiatives and program development activities.
· Help maintain a safe, supportive, and recovery-oriented treatment environment.
· Through identified and approved transportation sources, escort clients to community self-help group meetings and activities.
· Assist in the maintenance of the client’s outdoor recovery space.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Public Health, or related field preferred.
Credentialing
· Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP), or equivalent credential preferred.
Experience
· Experience working with individuals affected by substance use disorders preferred.
· Lived recovery experience may be considered a valuable qualification when consistent with program needs and organizational policy.
· Experience in behavioral health, human services, healthcare, or social services preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Understanding of substance use disorders and recovery principles.
· Knowledge of community recovery resources and support systems.
· Ability to establish professional boundaries and maintain confidentiality.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
· Basic documentation and computer skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
· Commitment to ethical and recovery-oriented practice.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the facility.
· Ability to participate in community-based activities and client support services.
· Ability to respond appropriately during client emergencies.
