AUMC Child Development Center is seeking a dependable, energetic, and caring School-Age Teacher / Program Support Staff Member to join our team.

This is a unique full-time position for someone who enjoys working with school-age children while also being a flexible and supportive member of an early childhood education team.

When our School-Age Program is in session , this employee will take the lead in providing a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for our school-age children.

When the School-Age Program is not in session , the employee will continue working full-time within the Child Development Center, providing classroom coverage, assisting teachers, completing light administrative work, preparing program materials, and helping with other childcare and center responsibilities as needed.

School-Age Program Responsibilities

When the School-Age Program is operating, the School-Age Teacher will:

• Plan and implement fun, engaging, and age-appropriate activities for school-age children.
• Provide opportunities for art, STEM, literacy, games, recreation, outdoor play, and social interaction.
• Maintain a safe, welcoming, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
• Actively supervise children by sight and sound.
• Encourage independence, responsibility, problem-solving, and positive peer relationships.
• Use positive and developmentally appropriate behavior guidance techniques.
• Prepare materials and learning areas for daily activities.
• Assist with meals and snacks.
• Participate in outdoor activities, special events, field trips, and other program experiences.
• Maintain required classroom and program documentation.
• Communicate professionally with children, families, coworkers, and administration.
• Follow AUMC CDC policies and applicable Virginia child care licensing requirements.

Responsibilities When the School-Age Program Is Not in Session

Because this is a full-time, multi-purpose position , the employee will support other areas of the Child Development Center when school-age care is not operating.

Responsibilities may include:

• Provide classroom coverage during teacher breaks, planning periods, meetings, staff absences, and other staffing needs.
• Serve as a resource/floater teacher in classrooms as assigned.
• Assist teachers with classroom activities, supervision, transitions, meals, playground time, and daily routines.
• Prepare classroom materials, activity supplies, and program resources.
• Organize supplies, resource areas, classrooms, and storage spaces.
• Complete light administrative duties, including copying, filing, preparing packets, assembling forms, organizing paperwork, and assisting with office projects.
• Assist with special events and center-wide activities.
• Help maintain clean, safe, organized, and inviting learning environments.
• Assist with opening, closing, or other daily center responsibilities as assigned.
• Perform other childcare, classroom, administrative, or program-related duties as necessary to support the needs of the center.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

• Have previous experience working with school-age children, preschool children, or children in a licensed childcare or educational setting.
• Be dependable, punctual, organized, and flexible.
• Be comfortable working with children of different ages.
• Be willing and able to move between school-age teaching, preschool classroom support, and administrative responsibilities.
• Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Maintain a positive and professional attitude with children, families, coworkers, and administration.
• Be able to take initiative and recognize where assistance is needed.
• Be willing to complete required childcare training and professional development.
• Maintain current CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification or be willing to obtain required certification.
• Meet applicable Virginia child care licensing and employment requirements.
• Be physically able to perform the duties associated with working in a childcare environment.

Your workday may look different depending on the needs of the center. One day you may be leading STEM activities with school-age children; another day you may be helping in a preschool classroom, preparing materials, covering a teacher's break, assisting with a special event, or helping the administrative team complete a project.

Employment Type: Full-Time

The School-Age Program operates on designated full-day school closure dates and during scheduled summer programming. When the School-Age Program is not operating, the employee will maintain their full-time position by supporting other classrooms, administrative functions, and overall program operations.
