Hardware Engineering Technician

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a Hardware Engineering Technician working in our research and development division. This technician will be testing proto units and boards with a chance to perform investigative troubleshooting to the component level.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Perform basic electronic hardware tests in accordance with defined engineering procedures or guidelines under the direction of engineers or more experienced technicians.
• Build engineering prototypes under the direction of an electrical engineer or experienced technician. Document prototype construction and maintain pertinent engineering records.
• Assist engineers in the evaluation of new electronic components.
• Assemble test fixtures, load banks, and other components common to product development.
• Provide support to engineering staff as needed.
• Process engineering change orders (ECOs) of modest complexity under the direction of engineers or more experienced technicians.
• Understand. Create. Simplify.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications include:

• Two-year electronic technology or related associate degree.
• Working knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits.
• Familiarity with modern test equipment.
• Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Background check results satisfactory to SEL.
• Negative drug test result(s).

Preferred qualifications include:

• Troubleshooting to the component level.
• Familiarity with the Python language and scripting.
• Experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems.
• Working knowledge of IT equipment (Ethernet switches, TCP/IP address setup).
• Practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems.

Pay range information: $40.50 - $59.50 per hour. Our salary ranges are determined by job and responsibility. We base our starting pay offer and title on job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
