Aircraft Mechanic

Duties As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-8/10/12, this position is located in the Sortie Generation Section of the Aircraft Generation Division within the Logistics Directorate of an Air National Guard Flying Wing. Its purpose is to act as the crew chief with responsibility for directing the total maintenance effort on individually assigned aircraft. The work involves the total maintenance of complex, high performance military aircraft. Fully responsible for providing detailed technical insight on individual aircraft's level of Mission Capability (MC), then develops and recommends a comprehensive course of action to maintain the aircraft at Full Mission Capability (FMC). All aircraft are fully integrated in and are part of the Total Force Mission of the United States Air Force. This position is responsible to fully prepare assigned aircraft for Aerospace Expeditionary Force/Wing (AEF/AEW) Operations around the world.

Qualifications Areas of Consideration: Area 1 - Current permanent and indefinite T32 technicians of the Oregon ANG. Area 2 - Current permanent and indefinite T5 employees of the Oregon ANG. Area 3 - Current service members in the Oregon ANG. GENERAL and SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Work involves the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, and modification of fixed and rotary wing aircraft systems, airframes, components, and assemblies, where the work requires substantive knowledge of the airframe and aircraft mechanical, pneudraulic, and/or electrical systems and their interrelationships. Some work situations within this series may require varying levels of electronics knowledge. Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. To Qualify For WG-08 - Must have 12 months of experience in the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components, and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies, and components, e.g., such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing, and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems. To Qualify For WG -10 - Must have 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and reassembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. To Qualify For WG-12 - Must have 18 months experience - In addition to journey-level experience or training equivalent to or exceeding the WG-10 or WU-10 grade level, positions at this grade level may include performing duties as a dedicated crew chief. Other positions may include responsibility for performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing the work and any periodic inspections to be done on an aircraft whether it is alone, or with the assistance of other mechanics and/or workers. Some positions may include coordinating the work of other journey-level workers in other trades to work simultaneously on the aircraft. Other positions may include serving as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs of assigned aircraft.
