Job Description

This position is for an experienced Lathe Turning Machinist who can independently set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC lathes in a production environment. You will run parts from start to finish, understand and edit programs, and maintain high quality standards with minimal supervision. The role requires strong machining skills, the ability to read and interpret technical documentation, and confidence working in a fast-paced industrial manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes in a production environment, ensuring efficient and accurate machining of parts.

• Utilize and understand CNC programming, including editing, troubleshooting, and running jobs as required.

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements and proper setups.

• Inspect parts during and after machining to verify that quality and tolerance requirements are consistently met.

• Use common precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and analog measuring instruments to confirm part dimensions.

• Load, adjust, and work with fixtures and tooling to support safe and accurate machining operations.

• Operate independently with minimal assistance, making sound decisions to keep production running smoothly.

• Perform changeovers and setups efficiently to support production schedules and minimize downtime.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, following all safety procedures and best practices.

• Collaborate with other machinists, welders, assemblers, and engineers as needed to support manufacturing and repair activities.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 3 years of Lathe Turning machining experience in a production or similar environment.

• Proven ability to set up and operate CNC lathes independently, including running parts from start to finish.

• Strong blueprint reading skills, with the ability to interpret drawings and work instructions accurately.

• Experience measuring parts using precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other analog measuring instruments.

• Familiarity with fixtures and tooling, including loading, adjusting, and using them safely and effectively.

• Ability to understand and work with CNC programming, including editing and troubleshooting programs for lathe operations.

• Experience with CNC machines and bridge mill programming.

• Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, taking ownership of quality, productivity, and safety.

• Solid understanding of machining principles, tolerances, and quality control practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Okuma machines is a plus.

• Background in machining, machine operating, and manual machine tools such as drill presses is beneficial.

• Experience with Mazak lathes and Mazatrol controls is highly valuable.

• Familiarity with bridge mills and other CNC milling equipment is an advantage.

• Comfort working with changeovers, setups, and various machining processes in a production environment.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including welders, assemblers, and engineers.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large industrial manufacturing facility that supports the production and repair of components for the steel and heavy industrial sectors. You will work around heavy machinery, CNC equipment, fabrication tools, cranes, and material handling systems in a clean, organized, and safety-focused environment. The setting includes typical manufacturing conditions such as machine noise, moving equipment, and regular periods of standing, walking, lifting, and working around large metal parts. Work is hands-on and production-oriented, and you will collaborate closely with machinists, welders, assemblers, and engineers. Shifts are available on first, second, and third shift, with initial training on first shift for up to one month. The schedule generally runs Monday through Friday, with overtime every other Saturday, reflecting a busy, high-output operation that relies on dependable, skilled machinists.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $79040.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
