About the Job The Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) at the University of Minnesota will host two summer camps in 2026. The National Transportation Summer Institute (NSTI) will host 30 students entering grades 7-9 on campus for a two‑week camp introducing them to topics and careers in the transportation industry. Students will engage in academic curriculum, work on a group project, and go on several field trips throughout the Twin Cities. The Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV) Camp will host 20 students entering grades 10-12 on campus for a one‑week camp introducing them to careers in the field of connected and automated vehicles. Responsibilities Assist with printing and packing of camp materials. Assist in the delivery of camp activities. Supervise students throughout camp. Identify and respond to camper behavior issues; report any behavior issues to the camp coordinator or director. Assist in maintaining accurate program records including daily attendance, checking students in and out of camp, and student evaluations. Assist in set‑up and clean‑up of events, lunches, and other camp‑related activities, including transporting supplies. Know, enforce, and follow all safety and emergency guidelines associated with the camp. Work up to full time (40 hours per week) for six weeks, available weekdays Monday, July 6 through Friday, August 14, on site from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on work days. Qualifications At least 18 years old with a high school diploma. Enrolled in a post‑secondary education program. Some experience working with youth, preferably in a leadership or educational setting. Energetic and outgoing demeanor when hosting events. Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written. Ability to prioritize and complete work assignments from multiple staff. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, good organization and prioritization. A desire to work in a fast‑paced and multi‑tasking environment. A desire to work independently as well as part of a team. Ability to problem‑solve, take initiative and be proactive. Excellent customer service skills; a professional demeanor and appearance. Ability to pass a criminal background check (required by University policy for youth programs). Preferred: Experience with middle‑ or high‑school aged students, particularly in a summer camp setting. Preferred: Enrolled as an undergraduate at the University of Minnesota. Pay and Benefits Pay Rate: $18 per hour. Retirement plan options are available for Civil Service, Faculty, Labor‑Represented, Professional & Administrative, and Temporary Casual classifications.
