Java Technical Lead / Full Stack Lead
We are looking for an experienced Java Technical Lead / Full Stack Lead to provide technical leadership for complex enterprise applications and distributed systems. The role requires strong hands-on development experience in Java and Spring Boot, along with expertise in cloud technologies, APIs, microservices, integration and production application support.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading technical design and development, troubleshooting complex production issues, driving application modernization, and providing technical guidance to distributed Agile teams.
Required Qualifications
- 6-8 + years of experience in software engineering, with strong hands-on experience in Java/J2EE and enterprise application development
- Strong proficiency in Java 8/11 or higher and Spring/Spring Boot
- Strong experience developing RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed applications
- Experience with Node.js, React or Angular (good to have)
- Experience with AWS cloud environments
- Good understanding of Microservices and SOA-based architectures, loosely coupled systems, and highly configurable applications
- Hands-on experience with Kafka, Kubernetes, and other modern open-source technologies
- Experience with application security and vulnerability management tools such as SonarQube or equivalent
- Strong understanding of configuration management, code reviews, coding standards, refactoring, and development best practices
- Experience with JDK upgrades, application modernization, technical remediation, and platform upgrades
- Strong database knowledge and experience troubleshooting database connectivity and application data issues
- Experience with performance tuning, memory management, JVM/GC analysis, and application stability
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or equivalent
- Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Experience working with geographically distributed development and support teams
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and understand complex application landscapes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work directly with clients and stakeholders
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and direction to development and application support teams
- Lead technical design, development, code reviews, unit testing, system testing and test automation activities
- Design and develop scalable, secure and highly available Java/Spring Boot applications and APIs
- Provide technical guidance on full-stack development across Java, Node.js and React/Angular
- Drive application modernization, technical remediation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead and support JDK upgrades and technology migrations
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for critical incidents and recurring problems and drive permanent corrective actions
- Ensure adherence to secure coding, configuration management and software development best practices
- Review technical designs and code to ensure quality, maintainability, security and performance
- Work with Agile teams to prioritize and deliver technical work aligned with business and project timelines
- Provide technical estimates and support planning for application enhancements, defects, upgrades and remediation activities
- Participate in production support, incident management, problem management and release activities
- Identify opportunities for automation, operational efficiency and application reliability
- Work effectively with geographically distributed teams and coordinate activities across multiple technology groups
- Communicate technical issues, risks, dependencies and recommendations clearly to client stakeholders and leadership
Preferred / Domain Experience
- Experience in Connected Vehicle, Telematics, Automotive or other complex enterprise domains
- Experience supporting high-volume, customer-facing applications
- Experience working with cloud-native architectures and modern enterprise integration patterns
- Experience with API Gateway, event-driven architecture, Kafka, messaging and asynchronous processing
- Experience with production monitoring, observability and application reliability practices
- Local to LA location
