Overview: The primary role of a blood extraction specialist is to aid in executing various assigned tasks, problem solving, training, and providing recommendations to enhance work processes.

Responsibilities:

Experience in blood withdrawals, specimen labeling, specimen centrifugation, maintenance data recording and decontamination, patient information updating, etc. Collection and storage of specimens in accordance with established procedures. Clear and courteous explanation of venipuncture (blood drawing) or other specimen collection processes (e.g. urine or fecal samples) as necessary. Proficient in using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Thorough comprehension of all physician directives. Matching of laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Correctly label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens based on test orders. Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against script for accuracy. Properly package specimens for transportation. Ensure specimen samples are stored at required temperature, placed in appropriate containers/tubes, accurately labeled, and follow specific protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Adherence to OSHA and DEP regulations. Participation in annual departmental training sessions. Answering of phone calls and providing explanations of laboratory results to address inquiries.

Minimum Requirements: Valid state-specific Phlebotomy certification where employed if mandated by state regulations. At least 6 months of venipuncture experience in a high-paced laboratory or hospital setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or equivalent at least 1 year of prior experience
