Construction Accountant (Sage 100)

Location: Senoia, GA

Reports To: Accounting Manager / Controller
Compensation: Depending on experience

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Construction Accountant to support financial operations within a commercial construction environment.

This role will be responsible for managing project-related accounting activities, including full-cycle accounts payable, subcontractor compliance, general ledger maintenance, and month-end closing processes. The ideal candidate will have experience with Sage 100 Contractor , construction accounting workflows, and financial tracking related to complex projects.

The Construction Accountant will work closely with leadership, operations teams, and Project Managers to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance, and effective project cost management.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the month-end closing process within Sage 100, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, accruals, and general ledger accuracy.

• Support audit preparation, documentation, and compliance activities, including Workers' Compensation audits.

• Maintain accurate payroll/labor classifications and subcontractor records for audit requirements.

• Process vendor and subcontractor invoices, including invoice coding, approvals, payment batches, joint checks, and contract retainage tracking.

• Review and maintain subcontractor compliance documentation, including lien waivers, insurance certificates (COIs), and required documentation.

• Review and post project-related financial transactions within the accounting system.

• Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure AIA progress billing information (G702/G703) is accurately reflected in accounting records.

• Provide financial reports, accounting details, and job cost information to Project Managers.

• Assist Project Managers with monitoring project costs against budgets and estimates.

Required Qualifications

• 2-4+ years of accounting experience, preferably within commercial construction or specialty trade contracting.

• Experience with construction accounting processes, including job costing, phase codes, contract retainage, and subcontractor workflows.

• Hands-on experience with Sage 100 Contractor or similar construction accounting software.

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

• Experience supporting full-cycle month-end close processes.

• Knowledge of subcontractor compliance requirements and insurance documentation.

• Experience assisting with audit preparation and financial documentation.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
