PIRTEK, the nation’s leading provider for on-site hydraulic and industrial hose replacement is hiring for the position of Outside Sales Representative.

You do not need outside sales experience. You need to be the kind of person who would rather knock on a door than sit at a desk.

PIRTEK Marion is opening our Delaware service center this fall. We replace hydraulic hoses on site, usually while a machine is down and somebody is losing money by the hour. Our customers are manufacturers, construction contractors, quarries, rental yards, farms, and trucking outfits. Anyone with equipment that stops when a hose blows.

Right now we have no customers in this territory. That is the job. You build it.

What it pays

$50,000 base salary, plus uncapped commission. You earn 5% of everything a new account buys in its first year, and 2.5% after that.

The commission compounds. Accounts you open this year keep paying you next year while you are opening the next set on top of them.

• Year one, working hard: $62,000 to $70,000
• Year two, with your book built: $75,000 to $85,000

We will walk you through that math in the interview using real numbers. We would rather you check it than take our word for it.

You might be doing this now

Inside sales or counter sales. Parts counter at NAPA or O'Reilly. Rental counter at United Rentals or Sunbelt. Assistant manager at a Valvoline, Take 5, or a retail store. Quick lube or tire technician who is good with people and tired of the shop. Recently out of school and working something that pays the bills.

If you have a couple of years of dealing with customers and you want a shot at outside sales, this is that shot.

What you will do

• Walk into businesses that have never heard of us and start a conversation
• Find out what equipment they run and what it costs them when it goes down
• Follow up. Most of this job is the second and third visit, not the first.
• Ride along with our technician so you understand what you are selling
• Keep your own target list and work it every week

Straight talk about the hard part

Most days you will hear no. You will walk into shops where the owner is busy and does not want to talk to you. Nobody is watching your calendar, which means nobody is going to make you go out on a cold Tuesday afternoon in February.

People who need a manager standing over them do not last in this job. People who like a scoreboard do.

What we are looking for

• You can talk to a stranger without rehearsing it first
• You are organized enough to follow up when you said you would
• You are comfortable on a shop floor, in steel toes, around equipment
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
• A couple of years of work where you dealt with customers, in any industry
• High school diploma or GED

Hydraulic experience is not required. We train the technical side, and PIRTEK pays for it.

What you get besides the pay
