Program Manager, Arts & Community Programs

Motown Museum

These modest buildings on Detroit’s West Grand Boulevard housed dozens of the music industry’s most talented, passionate and successful people. More than half a century later, the walls of Motown Museum continue to hold that entrepreneurial energy for its staff—and you could be part of our team. About the role The Program Manager supports the Artistic Director in the planning, organization, and execution of departmental initiatives that engage the community in Motown Museum’s mission. This position works under the direction of the Artistic Director and is responsible for the administrative and operational coordination of existing programs and initiatives, including Motown MIC: The Spoken Word Competition, AMPLIFY: The Sound of Detroit Singing Competition, and other departmental projects as assigned. What you'll do Essential Functions Lead the administrative and operational execution of Motown MIC and AMPLIFY, including timelines, scheduling, participant communication, contracts, vendor coordination, budgets, rehearsal logistics, and day‑of‑event management, under the direction of the Artistic Director. Provide administrative and operational support for the Hitsville NEXT Revue, Summer Camps, workshops, community events, and other departmental initiatives as assigned. Create and maintain project plans, calendars, budgets, run‑of‑show materials, tracking documents, and other administrative resources needed to support departmental initiatives. Serve as point of contact for assigned vendors, participants, community partners, and collaborating organizations, and support relationships with external partners under the direction of the Artistic Director. Coordinate operational needs for performances, events, and productions, including venue logistics, transportation, staffing, equipment, and event support. Provide administrative and operational support to the Artistic Director and department, including meeting coordination, preparing materials, maintaining files, tracking deadlines, and assisting with special projects as needed. Support grant‑related efforts by providing program information, budget input, and outcome reporting. Coordinate with photographers, videographers, marketing staff, and outside vendors to support promotional materials and event coverage under the direction of the Artistic Director. Represent Motown Museum and Hitsville NEXT at meetings, forums, events, and community engagements as assigned. Execute priorities established by the Artistic Director. This position does not independently determine artistic direction or develop new programming initiatives unless assigned. Qualifications Strong organizational, project management, and operational planning skills Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment Detail‑oriented with strong follow‑through and problem‑solving abilities Ability to work collaboratively and effectively under the direction of the Artistic Director Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other common office and project management tools Experience coordinating events, performances, or community‑based programming preferred Familiarity with arts, nonprofit, or cultural institution environments preferred Supervisory responsibility May occasionally supervise interns, volunteers, temporary staff, or event support personnel as assigned. Work environment This position operates in both office and event settings. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and printers. Physical demands / strength While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, handle, talk, and hear. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Moderate physical effort may be required during events and productions. Environmental conditions Moderate noise level. Position type / expected hours of work Full‑time, 35–40 hours per week. This position frequently requires evening and weekend work based on program and event schedules. Travel Regular local travel for meetings, events, and programs. Some overnight travel may be required. Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Education and experience Minimum of one to three years of experience in program coordination, project management, event management, arts administration, nonprofit programming, or a related field Experience working in a creative, arts, nonprofit, educational, or cultural institution environment preferred #J-18808-Ljbffr
