About the Role

The Director, Editorial Services is responsible for the day-to-day operational leadership, workflow management, quality oversight, and development of The Bloc NY Editorial team. The Director ensures that editorial deliverables meet agency, client, medical, regulatory, AMA, and FDA standards.

This role partners closely with cross-functional teams to ensure work is delivered accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with client expectations, FDA guidance, and agency standards. The Director executes editorial operations within established agency processes, staffing models, budgets, and strategic direction set by leadership.

Reports to: SVP, Operations, The Bloc NY

Direct reports: US-based Senior Editors and Editors

Responsibilities

• Oversee the editorial team’s day-to-day workflow, ensuring projects are prioritized appropriately and delivered on time.

• Coordinate editorial staffing and resource allocation in partnership with Resource Management, escalating significant staffing or capacity needs to Operations leadership.

• Review and monitor editorial work to ensure adherence to agency, client, AMA, and FDA standards.

• Collaborate closely with Account, Project Management, Copy, Medical, and Creative teams to ensure seamless project execution and timely delivery.

• Work across departments to ensure medical information is communicated clearly and accurately in all creative tactics.

• Maintain and reinforce established editorial and agency processes and workflows.

• Monitor team workload, utilization, and resource needs, communicating trends or concerns to Resource Management and leadership.

• Identify workflow improvement opportunities, recommend changes to leadership, and implement approved processes and standards within The Bloc NY Editorial team.

• Manage the performance and ongoing development of direct reports through coaching, feedback, development planning, and formal performance evaluations. Escalate significant performance or employee-relations matters to leadership and the People team.

• Support onboarding and training for new editorial team members and freelancers on editorial processes and expectations.

• Assist in evaluating freelance needs and onboarding freelance editorial support as required.

• Participate in candidate interviews and provide hiring recommendations for editorial positions and freelance support.

• Provide editorial subject-matter support for new business pitches and related materials as requested.

• Support quality control efforts, ensuring work is accurate, compliant, and client-ready.

• Execute administrative and departmental responsibilities in a timely and organized manner.

Requirements

• 6+ years of promotional pharmaceutical editing experience.

• Prior HCP and DTC launch experience.

• 4+ years of direct supervisory experience.

• Mastery of Acrobat Pro, Ziflow, and Global Vision/Verify, with experience training others on digital routing platforms.

• Expert knowledge of AMA style and FDA rules and regulations.

• Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.

• Client-facing experience.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating across disciplines.

• Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to multitask.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• A proactive and diplomatic approach.

• Strong organizational skills and follow-through.

• Self-motivation and the ability to positively motivate others.
