- 100% FTE (40 hours per week)
- Monday - Thursday; 7:30pm-6:00am
- Night shift
- Primary responsibility: scheduling clinic appointments, processing lab requests and specimens, and performing clerical duties in support of the unit
- Be a part of a team dedicated to supporting UW Medicine, where Patients Are First
- Register patients; verify, collect, and update demographic and financial information
- Determine eligibility for care; assign appropriate payor plans; verify eligibility and benefits for third-party payors for planned and/or emergency services
- Verify insurance coverage; obtain authorizations; complete Medicare as a Secondary Payor form
- Document comments for the financial file; obtain necessary signatures for consents
- Collect co-payment or other patient liabilities
- Respond to patient questions; provide directions to areas such as clinics, units, support departments, parking, and eating facilities
- Assist patients in accessing hospital and community services by consulting and referring to appropriate resources
- Assist patients and families with phone calls while maintaining confidentiality of patient information
- Triage patient telephone calls to clinical staff; obtain necessary information for return calls; initiate emergency procedures when needed
- Communicate various types of information to patients, referral agencies, departments, physicians, and the community (e.g., financial arrangements for special programs, experimental protocols, hospital charge estimates, insurance coverage, and billing procedures)
- Assist patients in completing documents such as insurance forms and other paperwork
- May coordinate death procedures, including disposition and documentation
- Participate in developing, testing, and implementing new organizational systems for the unit or department
- Act as an advocate for patients and families by assisting them with finding appropriate staff to address concerns and protect patient privacy and confidentiality
- High school graduation or equivalent
- One year of healthcare, administrative, or customer service experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirement
$21.82 hourly
